Description
These are illustrations for Zachris Topelius' story "Sampo Lappelill", which I turned into a Christmas calendar for daycare kids. The story is revealed in small chunks, each time a picture is revealed.
Sampo promptly steals the reindeer with golden antlers and rides off. His steed manages to outrun a thousand angry bears and a hundred thousand vicious wolves, but when the reindeer hears Hiisi's thunderous steps approaching, he suggests that Sampo steer towards a church instead. Only through a baptism can he be truly safe from the Mountain King's wrath.
