Sonic the Hedgehog. What more is there to say?Haven't drawn in paper for too long. It's good to know this guy's still very easy for me to do. ~
Some random pose and that's supposed to be a rock he's sitting on but I haven't slept at all so I have a headache and left it like that, plus I'm not in the mood for detailing.
Oh and he's got some personal touches. This is my version of Sonic. Nothing big, just things I added for a reason.
I liked drawing him with those rings before Shadow came along.
Want to color it. We'll see if I actually do it...

He looks great, I did a practice sketch of him using your picture, I did not trace him in anyway, its all freehand. I have credited you though for the original design.

I don't mind people using my art for reference or practice as long as they give credit. I've done it too and it's the best way to learn, specially knowing this image has a challenging pose and angle.

Lots of practice. His torso has always been a pain for me too if I'm trying tricky posing. For that reason I give him a more human-like anatomy.

Could I attempt to recreate this pose, with a few slight edits, for one of my new characters I plan on creating?

Alright if you credit and link properly and you should because this image has been victim of art theft several times and might be taken as such when they see yours, so proper crediting should save you that.
But try not to recreate other's works often and come up with your own things. Just copy for practice until you can do it yourself.
I find the best way to draw hard poses is to have someone do the posing for you as reference or doing them yourself in front of a mirror. And even if it doesn't look as good on the first time just keep trying it and you'll eventually get it.
Another tip, something I do. If I really do like a pose from another artist I initially copy the pose to get the general feel of it but then change the angle to make it different from theirs.
