Description Sarah & Jareth as two of the more notable American Trickster archetypes.

Cause they were both tricksters in that movie, darnit. Jareth was a 'Spider' trickster, making plans & weaving webs. Generally a more static, manipulative force. Sarah embodied more of a 'Coyote' trickster, flying by the seat of her pants, making friends, & using cleverness. She was fluid, a spirit of change.

Here, Jareth is Baron Samedi of New Orleans/Louisiana Voodoo culture. He is the Loa of Death, sex, and resurrection. He heads up the wild, raunchy Ghede family of Loa & loves rum & cigars. He can be found at crossroads of life & death, helping the dead to the Underworld.

Sarah is the Kokopelli of Southwestern Indian tradition. He is the trickster god of fertility agriculture, and music. He is portrayed as a humpacked flute player. Interestingly enough, the portrayal of Kokopelli in the Southeastern Mississippian culture (where I'm from) had the trickster as a woman.
