Description Senior year, our film analysis class got to make paper mache masks. I decided to make one based on the masks of the clockwork dolls who sing 'close to you' in Mirrormask. It's one of my favorite scenes, and the mask turned out well. It now sits on my shelf in my dorm room.

I also tried to get that class to watch Mirrormask, but they said it was to weird.

Materials: Paper mache', wire, cardboard, paint, glitter, duct tape, blue cellophane, and a little wooden ball

Mirrormask (c) Henson, Gaiman, and McKean

True. And yet I was, intruiged. Ah well.

I've been looking for that version of the song on itunes forever, and I've never been able to find it.

Mirrormask is an awesome film, but I think it only appeals to Henson Fantasy fans and/or Neil Gaiman fans. It's a good visual film to watch. Then again I had a hard time convincing people that Tim Burton is awesome and I was a fan of his work before it was popular to be one.

Is there a soundtrack for the film?

I had never seen anything like it visually. It is actually what got me into Neil Gaiman and Dave McKean. I rented it first and watched it every day we had it. There is alot of creativity and artistry in the conception that just drew me in. That, and as a friend said recently, everyone needs a Valentine.

There is music to the film (like 'close to you' and the 'apologize' song in the credits) which I love. But it isn't on itunes and is therefore inaccessible to me.

You haven't watched a Terry Gilliam movie haven't you

I read Gaiman's work before. The Sandman series is alright. I liked Neverwhere and Coraline. The recent Beowolf movie is okay as long as you ignore that they changed the story. I like the Sandman story he did with the artist Amano Yoshitaka (great artist if you haven't seen his artwork before). [link]

I have Labyrinth. Does that count?

I need to read more Gaiman. I have Stardust, and I love to watch the extras because he always seems to have this quirky outlook on things. And I'm pretending the Beowulf movie doesn't exist.

I am definately checking the artist out. Thanks.

Nah That's a different director. Terry Gilliam is a member of Monty Python. [link]

I forgot stardust. I read that too and American Gods, but I didn't really like American Gods (for some reason rabid male Gaimen fans LOVE it and recommend it like crazy). I like the book version Stardust better than the movie, but it was very pretty and Michelle Pfeiffer is awesome in it.

What Beowulf movie? It looked neat and there were some awesome lines it in, but WTF? Why change the story? I noticed that all the actors looked similar to their CGi counterparts except for Ray Winstone as Beowulf. Beowulf ended up looking like Sean Bean mated with Russell Crowe. I wanted to watch it because Gaiman wrote the screenplay but ....what happened?

Np. He has some awesome work. It's amazing how his brush work is VERY loose but can show so much detail.

I swear I saw the Labyrinth screenwriter in Python. I know I did. K(

"Why would they be turning everyone into Scotsmen. THEY MEAN TO WIN WIMBLEDON!" I know my Python.

And guess who's watching Michelle in Batman Returns as we speak. I decided to educate myself.

They mangled the story of Beowulf. I don't blame Neil, I blame the producers like I always do when the story is mangled.

Yeah! it's a so-so movie but still watchable (not as awful as the Catwoman movie).

I remember watching the special features and saw that Robert Zemeckis said that he didn't want to make the "English Class" version of the story. Well, those people that really want to watch a movie about Beowulf want that version.

Seriously, the English class version rocked.

That's where I got the idea for a modern-day femal Beowulf I wanted to do as a graphic novel.
