Wow. We have a calender in our kitchen of owls, and March is of this owl. One of the largest owls out there, what wonderful photos you have been posting, Kate!!

Thank you, Erin. She was very big indeed...and apparently one of the eagle owls at this sanctuary killed a pit bull terrier that jumped into the compound where some of the birds were tethered on perches. Not surprisingly, dogs are banned as the owls seem to despise them...

The largest Eagle Owls can take roe deer (apparently), and I think the owl was put off by the dogs' behaviour; so it probably concluded that the best defense was attack..
