Description New York Subway Station "Chambers Street" (J- and N-Trains)

I found that station while traveling from downtown to chinatown. I didn't had time to take a picture that day, but I definitely had to come back. Therefore I visited that station again in the morning before we flew back to switzerland.
And it was great! That place is just magical with all the lights, the decay and the abandoned platforms. I made several bracketing sequences and I tried to capture all the creepy stuff down there.
I had a really good feeling about the pictures, but in my opinion, it's always difficult to predict, whether the HDRs are going to look good or not.
But hey, here we go now! I'm really happy about how the pictures turned out!

I know this station well - Chambers St on the BMT Nassau St Line - one of the most dilapidated stations in the entire NYC subway system. Hats off to you for making it even sh-ttier looking than it actually is.

What an eerie spot that blue light makes in the general decay and copper tones elsewhere. The ragged openings under the floor beside the tracks are especially disturbing, like one could use them to crawl into an unknown world below the city we know.

Absolutely, you have never been down there?

No, I'm just joking, but the place is so creepy, I'm almost certain there are a lot of places down there only a few know about...

Hehe.

You're right, I'm sure of it. There was a program on the History Channel about the underground of well known cities. Between natural openings, mechanical access points and abandoned infrastructure...wow...

Get rid of the lights and it could be a scene from Hellgate:NY

Thank goodness you did not take a picture of the rats there, they have no qualms about suing people who take their pictures without a payment.

Looks great.

Was at Clark st and there was a rat on the platform.
It was too busy with its own affairs to mess with me.

I am more concerned with running into a crazy than rats.
One time a crazy walked up to me and stared me in the face.
Did not say anything and I did not like that.
I ended up jumping on the next train whatever direction it was going.

Sometimes riding the NYC subway is like an adventure, was on a train and someone thought they saw a person with a gun. Thank goodness I stayed in my seat while other folks were rushing to the closed subway doors.

Most of the time riding the train just works, you get on and go where you need to go.

you're welcome, I really liked it, I'm considering of buying 5D Mark II but, waiting new models of Canon EOS series now.

marcialbollinger In reply to WERAQS [2011-09-09 23:49:02 +0000 UTC]

So, I got it: 515073 unique colours.

If I were you, I'd go for the 5D Mark II. The price is already quite low (compared to the 1D) and the quality of the camera (hd-movies, noise-level, image quality and so on) is great in my opinion. I don't expect too much of a follow-up model to the 5D Mark II, because there is nothing to advance (again just my opinion).

But I'm curious now, do you have any informations about a follow-up model to the 5D Mark II?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

WERAQS In reply to marcialbollinger [2011-09-10 07:31:20 +0000 UTC]

no, just waiting for a new model, it'd be sth like 7D Mark II (for video, because 5D Mark II's sensor overheating due to high-quality HD video recording), 1Ds Mark IV and/or 1D Mark V (with Digic V processor).. I'm waiting for a new model because Canon releases new high-end SLRs in late-august or mid september.

for the number of colors, its great!
