Originality

Technique

Impact

I'll start with the first impression I've got from seeing it: the tones and pose reminded me Hugo Pratt and Milo Manara.
The technique is a pleasure for the eye, it's smooth and light, the colours mix together and create the effects of light and shadow on the body even if they're just spots; there's no need of outlining details, given that the watercolors give them almost naturally.
The dark background defines the figure of the dancers and makes it almost shine, also the white colour gives the feeling it's a clear and starry night.
The pose is not excessively in movement, but it's clear she's dancing: this makes the painting both calm and dynamic. The body figure is very proportionate and realistic. Also, the fact that one figure is behind the other does not prevent to understand the pose of the one behind.

Hi, I found your image through and really enjoyed the subject matter.
Your positioning of the foreground dancer and the blurriness or uneven nature of some of the lines really gives the image a sense of flow and movement that immediately suggested that she was dancing.  The white specks on the dark background add to that freewheeling sense of dynamism that make me think of flashing lights in a dark club or even light reflecting off raindrops outside at night.  The positioning of the background woman, more tightly drawn into her space, with a more static pose, does not identify her as another dancer, however.  If not for the title, she might as easily be somebody watching the other girl dance or preparing to take a photo of the foreground girl.  A more dynamic pose for her would really identify the image as being "Dancers," plural.  Nevertheless, whether dancer and watcher or just dancer, the overall impact was to leave me smiling at the carefree feel that the image evokes.

The purpose of the white specks was exactly to be raindrops at night Glad you noticed that!
Yeah, the background woman was intended to be more static than the foreground one but I think she resulted too static to be considered a dancer...
Anyway thank you very much!

The detail of this deviation caught my attention. I like the small splashes of white paint around the two women. The different shades of the skin tone give the woman in front more detail. I like how you put in a lot of attention into the red piece of cloth. The line on the woman’s back give more detail. But, I’m curious to why are there spots of white on the woman? I think the reason why the woman wearing the black swimming suit doesn’t have shading, it’s because the woman wearing the straw hat is the main focus here. The detail on this deviation is what made this great.

Thank you for your time
I use a lot white spots when there is direct light but I use them also for more legibility. I leave some white spots where two dark colors merge - actually I don't know if this is pleasant or could be wrong....

You're right, I've let the woman with the black suit undetailad because she's on the background and if I've put many details on her the dancer in the foreground would lose legibility.

What do you think of my use of white spots? Do think I overuse them?

No, but I believe it’s unnecessary detail. What is legibility in your definition?

in my definition is when you can distinguish the topic of the illustration and is very clear what is the purpose of the illustration

it's an easy-cheap trick, I used a toothbrush - not the one I use to wash my teeth   - and I've picked some white acrylic, than with my hand I've sprayed the acrylic, the effect that come is the one you can see But be carful to don't mess you clothes and take care to cover the part you don't want to be sprayed... the first time I've tried I've sprayed a great part of acrylic on my laptop

lol im so sorry for your laptop. btw that is an awesome idea I never thought to use a toothbrush I always just used my paint brush but it wasn't stiff enough to make dots like that. I think you just gave me a new way of painting stars and stuff.
