Previous '68 VW Beetle, named Felton. Or at least this is what he looked like a couple weeks ago (at time of original posting), now he's got new tires, and I took off those rusty side runners between the wheels. Eventually, I plan on getting him all fixed up proper. right now he runs great, but the interior's in poor shape and what not, so I'll be doing a lot of leather upholstery on the inside and even a leather stone mask for the outside. I've got an illustration started on what he'll look like when I eventually get done with him, and I'm also considering doing some interior views.I really enjoy driving a classic car that's all mechanical. You really feel the connection between the engine and the road, lots of feedback. Especially since it's a manual.
When the picture was taken, I had the passenger seat taken appart in the house, right now though, I've got them both in there so at least 2 people can be in the car.

If this model is the kind with the battery under the passenger seat. I recomend nobody sit over it or anything set on top of it, because the seat is old, and the insulation can catch on fire. we barely made it out of the car and hit it with the extinguisher when it happened to us. your best bet is to have the seat remodeled, and to have a box for around the battery. if it doesn't have one of course.
I'm interested in seeing a before and after of the interior if you design it yourself.

you mean they don't all have the battery under the passenger seat? I've got a cover piece that's ontop of the hot end on the battery. I should get a before picture of the interior now before anything else happens

I'm going to start by saying I'm no expert, but I believe some models depending on the year have the battery under the hood, in the front. the cover is good. Ours was old and we believe there was enough weight on the box to create a contact with the battery. My sister was only 110 pounds at the time. And the seats were very in need of repair. Good luck and have fun with the restoration.

Yeah, it's great! but, super noisy in it's mid restoration state, since there's no insulation or carpet to keep the engine/road quiet.... adds to the character, along with all the other stuff

Good choice. I have had 3 of those over the years, all standard bugs (never liked the super beattle). Great little cars. Just check the oil on a regular basis.

About 8 or so years back there was (might still be out there - havent looked) but a guy had instuctions/kit to turn a VW Beetle into a mini hummer - a hum- bug- complete with a "truck bed" and would haul butt... ok.. i am just odd.

I wanted one so i could deliver coffee to customers. It was part of my business plan for my future coffee house (pushed back yet again, damn you life). And yea, i am sure the gas millage would be easier on the pocket book than a G-note for a real one.

Nice! My son bought a '64 and has been working on it for a while. He's 14 now and he got the car when he was 13. It didn't run when he got it, but he did a lot of work on it and now it runs like a champ! The kid's a genius! I'll post some pics when I get a chance- it's kind of a rat-rod... His is named Wolfie... I hope to get one soon!!!

Nice! Hey, go to the nearest auto shop (or hardware store) and look for some white paste called Rust Treatment, or Rust Converter. You want the paint on stuff, not the spray on, it'll be much more effective. But you clean the rusty parts and then paint this on and it converts the rust into an inert black layer that you can paint ontop of. (I've had to do this all over my interior sheet metal and every other little bit that I see rust. Turns black and makes a mess of paint, but I don't care since I'm planning on repainting mine anyway)

This is single handedly why I don't like the majority of new cars. There is next to no feeling to them. It's as if I've got ear plugs + baffles on and someone replaced my seat with 6" foam rubber blocks.. no sensation what so ever other than the encroaching attention robbing electronic devices.
The flip of that is why i'll stab someone to death before i give up my motorcycles

Just a thought, but I think it would be cool to have someone like Jashawk do bronze castings for the trim. Especially around the head lights and the handles.

I suppose you could cheat with a spraypaint that's coloured close to brass, then clear coat it. con:not real brass. pro:cheaper (guessing), never needs polished, and likely easier.
bonus points for puting your emergency kit in a box labeled "In Case of Zombies". I had a friend that kept a pruning chain saw in a 1500 round 7.62 case labeled like that. A cop thought it was funny enough to let him out of a 10/over ticket with a warning
