This picture is of Essi, a character from the X-note game by `zeiva
she is having a dream, and in the dream she is surrounded by flowers wrapped in bandages
The game story is a murder mystery of sorts, where Essi's normal life is taken away and she has to face death's presence, and this is represented by the flowers being strangled by blood-stained bandages (=w=""
I kept the stains to the minimum, kinda to make it like an unexpected surprise...

I don't know anything about colour theory (> x <"""" - I just adjust the colours' tint until it looks nice together
Her hair is suppose to be black with green tint, but I ended up making it just green (< A <;;

The hair looks fine, anime does it that way all the time...a lot of my fav. characters have a green tint in the comics, but in the anime they always make it look great.

I guess a simple start is don't add black/gray to make a shadow colour, but make it colder instead (like add blue)
You might already know this, but it's a very common mistake I see people make
Also I think it's a terrible idea to use burn or dodge to shade (I use luminosity/colour dodge/linear dodge layer mode instead and paint with a very light colour, like pink or orange, blue etc. , (not white!) but I only do this for a few tiny highlights, the rest is just regular)

No, that's great. 
When I do colours, I always change them after I do the flats...and then if it still looks strange after shading, I adjust. A few days ago, I made Arnassus's hair way to dark and vibrant.
