MY FAVORITE DRAWING CHALLENGE
Y I S
Yeah, i know, i know, how nice of me to appear by the very end of the challenge, throw in one single drawing and then descend back into the darkness. I've actually been very busy for the past few months, sorry ^^"
This artwork is inspired by the song "Big in Japan" by Aplhaville, an awesome band that just spreads good vibes, 10/10 would recommend. I listen to this song a lot when i ride to my university and recently i found out that this song is not about being famous in Japan, it's about heroine addiction. And on re-listening and imagining it in a new setting, i just couldn't help but come up with this.
This is Amy. If you knew me in 2018 then you may also remember Rett, a monstrous creature that has something to do with Amy, but eh, i'm not entirely sure. Well, i finally managed to figure it out!

Warning: sensitive topic ahead
Amy was addicted to drugs way back in the 80s. He would search for different ways of getting high - starting out with harmless cannabis and then getting into some more serious stuff like met or heroine. During one of attempts of getting some more drugs he meets Rett, a mysterious aquatic pony that is so very similar to Amy. They share points of view and interests, and they even seem to like the very same songs. They spend hours and hours getting high together, which only deteriorated Amy's addiction. It doesn't take long for them to fall in love with each other.
After about a few months of constant drug trips Amy realizes that this is not the life that he wants to live. He shares his feelings with Rett and Rett refuses to listen, making Amy's problems appear worthless. Rett literally makes Amy get more and more drugs, threatening to leave him forever or even beating him up if he refuses to take them, and every time Amy brought up the topic of drug-free life Rett would turn into an abusive monster. Another few months of constant pain, bad trips and fear of getting beaten go by. Amy decides that it is time for him to leave Rett forever. He asks his best friend Frannie to help him hide, and Frannie convinces him to go to hospital, saying that Rett will never find him there. Amy follows her advice, and soon enough, with the help of doctors, he realizes that he isn't really addicted anymore. Yes, he still wants to smoke weed, but will that ever compare to the heavy stuff he was addicted to? On leaving the hospital he gets called out by the main psychiatrist. She tells him that there is no such man as Rett, Amy has never entered an abusive relationship and that Rett only ever existed deep inside his head. Amy sighs witgh relief and heads straight home.
So um now you know!
A big shoutout to my irl friend Kate who helped me translate the title to Japanese!
