Shylock is a kind but no-nonsense lawman with an unshakable sense of justice. He can be very charming and sincere, and has a calling to help those in need. He is a revolutionary through and through, and a vocal activist for the downtrodden and unfortunate. He would be the politician who willingly throws themselves onto the front lines to fight with the people for what is just and good. Sometimes though, he may look too much at the bigger picture, and has a certain sense of detachment from romantic or intimate relationships. He can make friends easily, but those he would say are close to him are few and far between.

He loves to get to know people, but he is disinterested on offering the same. He can be so charming, though, that people don’t tend to dig too much, or mind.

It also means that sometimes, when he feels the occasion calls for it, people can be used - if it contributes to the greater good. His poor childhood also means he tends to be a little too frugal, and is an extreme penny-pincher. He could have all the money in the world and still buy the dollar-brand, and there’s pretty much nothing duct tape can't fix. He isn’t too good at the ‘treat yo self’ thing.

Backstory:

Born in Liverpool, it was natural for Shylock to attend Hogwarts...but instead he spent some years in Arizona, briefly attending Ilvermorny before finishing his studies at Hogwarts. Shylock came from poverty from which he clawed out of on his own, so it's not totally surprising he is moved by tales of struggle - as it is something he can intimately relate to. Taking the role of a prince charming, he is adamant on being a shield to the weak, a beacon for the downtrodden, and a family to the outcasts. He is invested in people and their stories - and has focused his adult life and studies in both wizard and muggle law with the aim to be a voice to those that have none.

Because of their overlapping interest in making the world a better place, Shylock befriended Akira DeLeon - who was actually responsible for getting him to attend Hogwarts in the first place with the full intention of becoming an Auror. He also funded Shylock’s enrollment ..they’ve been close friends since.

Shylock excelled as an Auror, going so far as to serve undercover under a splinter group of Dark Wizards. He was convincing, and it went well for a time. Shylock was successful in secretly thwarting their efforts by reporting his findings to the Ministry . .

. . . until he was found out. The results of which cost Shylock both an arm and an eye. Though the incident was three years ago, Shylock's been mostly stuck to 'safer' tasks at the request of Felix Jones, a close friend. Which frustrates him to no end. His duty, he felt, was out there. On the field and in the thick of it.

So instead, he's gotten comfortable drinking at his desk.
