Description

Short Version of my comments
This is a photograph of the view of the end of my backyard on a foggy night. I was reminded by my dad of The X-Files and UFOs. I had little hope that the magic would register in a photo but, although it does not do the situation full justice, I am rather pleased with this shot. I played with the color balance a little. The light is coming from a school behind my house. Please read the longer version for more details.

Long Version (for those with time to read!)
A little backstory is needed: I live very close to an school (preschool, 1st, and 2nd grade classes are held there). It's entrance (which is a long road) is located down the street from my house and this road curves so that the school is behind my house (it's fairly far: there is a small field and some thin woods between my backyard and the school). This past summer there was a lot of work done at the school (it's old). It was mostly on the parking lots but they also cut down many trees in the already thin woods between the aforementioned field and the school.

The point of all this is that they added lights to the parking lot of the school that is parallel to my house. These lights are blaring, stadium-esque lights and since the woods are barely there anymore, they shine straight across the field toward my home. I find these obnoxious because their light is so bright that it fills the rooms of my house that face the backyard. My mother (who goes to bed kind of early) is really annoyed because they illuminate her bedroom. These lights don't turn off until about midnight. She has been thinking about calling the town to complain (they won't do anything even if she does).

So, even though I have just told you how I deplore them so, I gotta say this -- The other night it was so foggy where I live. Really foggy. And my backyard looked so awesome You know how cool light makes fog. Glowing mist...it was beautiful. I took a few pictures to see if I could capture the enchantment (I had low expectations). This photo came out better than I hoped. I rather like it. It isn't a good representation of how clearly you can see the lights, though, because I took it from a low angle.

The thing about UFOs: When I told my dad to look at how cool the backyard was, he remarked that it looked like how it would if a UFO had landed And it did. Bright, stationary lights blaring through the trees...eerie mist. And the avid X-Files fan inside me was very happy because it made me think of the first episode of the show, "Pilot." It was perfect. If you watch the show, you should understand.

"Fallen angel" is a nickname for a downed UFO.
