Description I created this a few months ago on Vue5I.
I'm considering re-rendering it in Vue6I.
Trefoil created in KnotPlot. Smoothed in Hexagon 2.
2 mixed materials. 2 types of glass.
Altitude dependency is set at 60%.
Very simple, basic lighting.
My first experiment at creating mixed materials and applying dependency based on local slope, altitude and orientation.
I even ventured into the function editor. It's really not too hard to understand after all.
Lots o' fun.
I love to experiment!
So what do you think? Any ideas for version two?
Hope you enjoyed viewing this as much as I enjoyed creating and sharing it with you.
Check the download for the huge size!

Vue's glass has an unique loook to it, while it doesn't looks photorealistic it still is pleasing to look at. Somewhat retro too, considering the old shading models it uses...

True! Plus I didn't really know what I was doing then. Not that I know that much more now, lol.
Also I noticed Vue tends to overly saturate colors.
Bryce makes some killer looking glass and water and it's pretty old.
Anyway, I've been focusing lately on making photoreal glass in Vue 7.
There's so much to learn. I really believe if you know what you're doing it doesn't matter much which software is used.
Thanks so much for taking time to comment! It's much appreciated!

So this's ur avatar Nice one. I haven't used Vue & Hexagon, btw, in bottom part of this object, material show something like texture or noise that make feeling about fog or smoke inside glass Is it procedural material or not?

Why haven't I looked at this before! I love it. Wish I could do the same in Bryce (green with envy here at your skills).

So I've downloaded and paid for KnotPlot. Help!! I can't seem to export as EPS in colour. Any clues?

Ta!

Hmmm...I never tried exporting as EPS.
Well I tried it just now. I opened the file with several image editing progs. and no color.
So I clicked on "EPS examples on web site" (it's right next to "EPS out" under the "export" tab).
Here's one of the pages I went to:

Read the left side of the page. It seems to explain everything quite thoroughly!
Looks like you need a program called Ghostscript. More info about this program here:

Please let me know if this helps!?

OK, so it looks like I've spent £15 on a piece of software that I can't do anything else with! It's all getting far too complicated for me.

Many thanks for all of the links. I will keep them bookmarked and will try to tackle the Ghostscript software when I've got a spare weekend and haven't got loads of other stuff running around in my head!

Yeeeahh...it all looked a bit complicated to me too.
There's GOT to be an easier way! Maybe the author of KnotPlot can help?
As for the software they should honor a refund I would think?

Yoy dude I love it, the blur for the reflection is a must!!! but consider rising the angle of the perspective too. Love the colors!

Trefoils are awesome! There is also one i think in the default object presets that come with DAZ Bryce.

Looks great, I think you should have used blurry reflections on the ground though (I find that sometimes it looks really good with things like this).

Mark-Tamaro In reply to shakesoda [2008-05-21 11:00:55 +0000 UTC]

Thanks! You're right about blurry reflections. Even a very slight blur on the ground plane would have been good. I appreciate your suggestion!
