Description Here's the my latest bronze 'Venus' with the patina. Basic traditional bronze finish. This is the patina the client wanted. It wasn't my first choice but he was happy with it. This will be mounted on a 3 tiered black marble base and shipped to South Carolina. The edition size is 25.

Your Venus looks great. I wonder if it is all solid or hollow inside. Some foundries cast solid but some cast hollow for small size. And wonder which type would be better. In one foundry they had to cast my sculpture in 3-4 parts and then welded together although the sculpture was only 15 inch tall.
I've got 2 questions.
1) Do you shoot the photos yourself? If you do what kind of lens do you use? Choosing the right lens for sculpture is tricky for me.
2) If I were to sculpt in Super Sculpey about this size but wanted to go economical on Sculpey, what kind of materials would I use to fill inside? As Sculpey requires some baking.

Lovely work. I think you may be right about the bronze material. It needs something more ethereal to give her that extra punch. The modeling is great. Real life sculpture is so much better than a computer. Though it has it's perks.

I agree, digital sculpture has nothing on traditional work. It however is lots of fun and really has it's benefits in the commercial sculpture arena.

I love that it isn't fully coloured! I think I may have mentioned before that there is something so beautiful about the un coloured models you make! I love your work so much!

Thank you very much. yes, I like raw sculpture too. I do fine it difficult to chose a patina on my bronze pieces. The simpler the better.

Could I ask you, if I wanted to make a sculpture like the ones you make, could I use super sculpy and what sort of wire for the inside is best?

I really love your work!!

MarkNewman In reply to LeeLou416 [2013-05-21 19:08:59 +0000 UTC]

Yes, I use super sculpey all the time. I use an aluminum wire armature for my work.
Ant kind of wire will work, as long as it is strong enough to hold up the sculpted.

Thank you so much for the information, I truly appreciate that!!
I know you are a professional artist but do you ever attend cons like FanExpo Toronto?

I've been to a few Cons. Wondercon a few time when it started out in Oakland, CA. and then moved to San Fransisic. I finally went the the "big one", Comic Con last year in San Diego, Ca. I've never been to FanExpo.

Yes, why not. You may use my sculpture as a modeling reference in your film. Please credit me in the scene. Thanks for seeking my approval first.

You're a mensch, sir! Thank you! Thank you very much! You've just expanded the visual palette sooo much in this story. I will of course credit you for your phenomenal craftsmanship. Thanks again, man.

This is the art deco station this would be in. [link]

It would be a in see-through jade with an accent light underneath al'a Bioshock. The head fascist in the film, Hughes, stands in front of the goddess as he slaughter the two lovers and then summarily purges the train full of passengers. It's going to have this luscious ominous luminescence to it. Green's a major theme in the story, because it's an embodiment of the dichotomy of health and decay.

Where do you get a block of wax to carve something like this? If that's even how it works

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

MarkNewman In reply to ConfettiiYeti [2013-04-25 18:01:42 +0000 UTC]

This was originally sculpted in oil base clay then molded and cast in wax, then a ceramic shell mold is made over the wax. It's then burned out and they cast in the molten bronze and sand blast away the ceramic shell to reveal the bronze sculpture.
