Description More stones drawn from a Group of photos taken from The coast of St Ives in Cornwall UK earlier this year. Tricky things to draw but nice to try a couple of still lifes for a change. HB to 7B Fabers and HB and 2B mechanicals and a Koh i Noor woodless 8B plus the wooden pencil eraser and putty rubbers. It was hard adapting from soft portraits to hard rocks but i will be doing more like this to help me improve my stony techniques ...Size roughly A3

perfect balance between the values, nice that you dont made the dark shadows/areas too black.
There are some figures hidden in the stones, ...a haloween face, a hand, a foot etc... Very exciting picture

Very Mark Stewart - no need to title this one - your style Β oozes through to make it distinctively your work - and inspiration to my latest drawing (with an added drop of water of course ) Brilliant matching piece Mark

Cheers Paul, glad you like it. Ah I love your shells, that looked like a tricky one to draw having to me more precise with their shapes and all ... I could get away with a lot on mine and they would still pretty much work. Getting the sense of space between them was the tricky part ... Getting the Illusion of depth, that was where the enjoyment was to be had for me. Took while for those "little wins" to happen though lol

This drawing exhibits skillful variation in texture, shades of grey, and transition from light to shadow. It is an excellent work in monochromacy, an artistic study of nature, and a pleasing view of stones.Β

Another masterful graphite pencil drawing creating the illusion of real stones, this one even shows the artist's dedication since
one of the stonesΒ (the one in the middle right) gave me a sensation of pareidolia, resembling a cartoon-like human skull.Β

Cheers Clive, not used to doing these types of projects but i don't regret choosing to invest my time in them. I could not decide where to start and how to procede on the first one so i just winged it and hoped for the best. I hoped the second would be easier but was actually harder which i found confusing. Hopefully on the third one which i have to do for a private commission it will all come together and all the stones work ... A couple in these (especially the first drawing) do make me cringe a bit Β
