Annihilation Flashes
Exotic particles and matter fragments only fractions of the size of the traveling starship are subjected to annihilation when encountering the vessel's Superluminal Rift. This interaction results in bright, white flashes near the Riving Bow of the ship, which are seen as indicators of dangerous territories in the interstellar medium.
These flashes of annihilated matter are also easily identifiable in real space and one of the primary means of detecting starships and fleets traveling at superluminal speeds. Depending on the precise properties of the particles, their annihilation may be projected far ahead, like in the case of Quasi-Tachyons and Thimbral Matter.

Riving Bow
The Riving Bow, though unassuming to the naked eye, is the key to superluminal travel. Intricate arrays of coils within the blade-like structure project the fields driving a cleaver in between the seams of the Supernal Fabric. This allows the vessel to develop its spatial envelope and eventually the Superluminal Rift, setting it apart from relativistic effects and allowing the breach of the lightspeed barrier. While the Drive Torch provides the brute force, the Riving Bow causes the integral spatial effects enabling this form of travel.
The Riving Bow of imperial vessels is typically a large vertical 'hammerhead', occasionally expanded into a cross-structure. Other possible configurations are known, however.

Superluminal Rift
During superluminal travel, the starship lies inside a rift cleaved into the Supernal Fabric of space. This folded pocket of quasi-space is understood to lie outside the realm of the known universe and allows for the violent breach of the FTL barrier.
The Rift has a teardrop shape, its tapered end beginning by the bow, widening around the vessel and closing off with the collapse of the rift far behind the stern. From the perspective of the rest of the universe, the supernal fabric of space is warped around the superluminal vessel without an immediate effect on mundane matter. However, during the beginning and ending stages of a superluminal journey, violent intersections can occur, resulting in varying degrees of destruction depending on the forces involved.

Supernal Fabric
The Supernal Fabric describes the natural state of space, imagined for the purposes of the Sisyphos drive as a plane affected by energy and matter therein. The Supernal Fabric exists in the context of higher dimensionality and can be affected by exotic matter and technological devices such as the Riving Bow from within. Such disruptions, like cutting into the fabric to create a Superluminal Rift, are inherently unstable and will collapse to revert to the natural state if not constantly maintained and controlled. The only known long-term disruptions of the Supernal Fabric have been found in naturally occurring singularities.

FTL Barrier Breach
Rings of rippling energy travel from the bow to the stern along the vessel, representing fluctuations in the starship's Superluminal Rift. These circular barrier breaches will typically collapse far behind the stern of the vessel, closing the Superluminal Rift again. This is a common phenomenon, but must be closely monitored. Should the rings become too frequent and their collapse "catch up" with the superluminal vessel, a violent collapse of the entire Rift can occur. The starship may then be outright destroyed or thrown back into the real cosmos with significant damage.

Supraspace Vortexes
Irregularities in real space and presumingly the supraspace of the Superluminal Rift can create vortexes and eddies around the starship. These are dangerous phenomena, but they can be influenced by targeted discharges of energy and matter from the vessel. Avoiding vortexes is also an integral part of superluminal navigation. Should a vortex intersect with the ship's hull regardless, the damage can be significant. Parts of the ship can become permanently warped and deformed, if not outright ripped apart.

Drive Torch
In conjunction with the Riving Bow, the drive torch becomes both one of the simplest and most powerful machines ever created by humanity. While acting as a conventional engine in real space, under the unique conditions of the Superluminal Rift the drive torch can unleash extraordinary forces by tapping into the energy gradient between its mundane matter reaction and the supraspace of the superluminal rift. For this reaction to remain stable, the drive and core require constant supervision and maintenance during the journey.
