Description It's late for me, and I've had beer---two bottles, in fact, of a good Belgian variety ...that has done nothing for me insofar as I can tell.

Anyway, I didn't want the sun to go down on this day without an upload. Failing that (it's after 8pm here, as of writing) I've decided to upload a drawing anyway. ^^

I wanted a quick subject that I could draw whilst slightly tipsy and that wouldn't require any practice sketches. What could meet such criteria better than a bean-mouthed character from a preschool series made for public broadcasting? ^^

In this case, I've chosen Pogo from 'Jelly, Ben & Pogo' ...which is a series I know absolutely nothing about. ^^
Yeah, I'm tired---I wasn't looking for a challenge, I just looked at the character and drew it.

You can look at the character, too, by clicking here (link tested 02/01/2022): www.youtube.com/watch?v=PJ5Zwl…

...Well, I've just learned that Pogo is a sea monster, and is female (I'd have never guessed), and that 'halo-halo' means 'mix-mix' in Filipino. So, if I dream, somewhy, that I'm in the Philippines and want to stir something, I'll know how to ask. :3

Pencil...

To make up for the horrible art and subject, I'm featuring a pencil valued among collector's. :3
This is an 'Anglo-Saxon' from Dixon. Again, the Anglo-Saxon is a prized pencil in general, but this one is nicer than many!
For one, it's very much near mint (there's a reason for this that I'll get to), and it bears the coveted crucible icon (that little mark that looks like a top hat); only the older Dixons bear this mark.

This pencil is about ninety years old or thereabouts. :3

So, how is this one in such good shape?

Well, I really should save this story for another pencil (specifically, the Copygraph), but who knows whether the Good Lord will suffer my existence long enough for me to get to that pencil ...so here goes. ^^

I was on eBay looking through new pencil listings when I happened upon an Eagle Copygraph pencil. Not very exciting, but Eagles are nice, and that one was fairly inexpensive.
I bought it, and its seller messaged me that he had others like it that he would sell to me if I were interested (he had two other Copygraphs). I accepted.
The seller then said he had other pencils. He DM'd a photo of some pencils (among which was this Anglo-Saxon) and asked if I'd like to make an offer.

The message from the seller,

"I have 3 pencils that I have attached pictures for you to view, to see if you have an interest, before I do a listing. If you have an interest, I can still combine shipping for you, with no additional charge. These were also wrapped in tissue with the other pencils. If I can ask you to come up with a fair offer, I would consider it and do a listing for you. This is only a thought. If you prefer to pass, I also understand. It does not have to be all three. The erasers are dark and the Dixon has been slightly used on the eraser edges. The pictures, will show the overall condition. If you needed other pictures, please ask. I hope as always, you do not mind my notes. The person I received these from years ago, was an estate dealer for years. They purchased and saved many items they never would part with. I was very fortunate to have purchased many items from them years ago. Some items, like the pencils, I did not even realize I had and they were stored away by myself. I will be preparing your package in about 2 hours. Thank you for your time"

I offered low, in part because I didn't know if the seller would present me with more pencils. The seller made a counteroffer which I accepted.

...and for the curious, the other two pencils were a 'Tribe' pencil from The Pencil Exchange and (what I guessed was) a random insurance company pencil from around the 1930s (a bit of junk among the gems).

Anyway, in a previous message about the Copygraphs, the seller told me the 'estate dealer' cited above kept his pencils carefully preserved, wrapped in tissue paper. ^_^
With me, these are stored in acid-free archival zip bags, five pencils to a bag (and the bags reside in stackable plastic containers under my desk).

HAHAHA! What a funny story, right? Didn't we learn so much? ^_^

Ok, so my tale wasn't any good, but it must do until next time.

Ciao!
