i'm sorry to hear you feel like you're stuck in a rut. could it be possible that you're worrying too much about the future and all this is doing is making you strung out? you're still at university, right? i haven't finished a degree yet but i'm guessing everyone worries about what they're going to do once they're thrown out there into the big, wide world.
if i may be so bold, what are you planning on doing?
as for the art- i love the alien, insectoid design of this creature. the vibrant, red, fleshy back drop maked for an interesting setting for something so skeletal and wizened. also, bloc party?

You are living a conundrum, my friend. I feel that way as well sometimes--I'm especially afraid I will feel more that way once I'm out of school. It will suck indeed...
I agree with many here--that you should continue doing what you like and gain some inspiration somewhere, but I wouldn't recommend it right away. You should just take a break and do something else--stuff like reading, writing, cooking, solving math problems, etc. Then go back and continue your artistic pursuits. From what I can deduce for when I feel the same way you do, it's probably just because you've done this stuff for so long that you run dry of what motivates you.
I have no idea if this makes sense, but hopefully you get what I mean--inspire yourself after you indulge yourself. (I have no idea if that made sense either...)
Then again, I do agree with you on doing things that might not catch your fancy. You shouldn't do what you enjoy all the time. Balance is the key to a good life. Do the things you love on the side of making sacrifices for the things you don't like. Enjoyment is relative, and too much of a good thing is always a bad thing. If you receive candy, take it and don't ask for more. If you do, that first piece of candy won't be as sweet and special in comparison and you'll get sick of it. Thus, why I suggest a diversion to take you attention from wanting more... am I right?

We all have our downtimes. The culture lies to us about our ability to produce. It tells us that everyone has the same capacity to do anything -- as if we were machines made to maximize production. The thing is, if you want to be happy drawing and painting, you must never force yourself to do it. If you don't want to do it, then don't do it. Simple as that. Not everyone is the same. And, to add another dimension to that statement, not everyone is the same person all the time. Our wants shift. Just don't resist that shift, and you'll find yourself loving life a lot more.
