Description I'm having a tough time trying to find a reason to draw lately. I have a tough time living in the moment ... my brain always seems to want to be 1 or 2 years ahead. Or at least its planning for it. Makes me feel like i'm asleep sometimes in the prime of my life.

Anyway, any support is greatly appreciated. This is just safety stuff for me but if it gets digital ink to digital paper again its a good thing.

Thanks for looking

i'm sorry to hear you feel like you're stuck in a rut. could it be possible that you're worrying too much about the future and all this is doing is making you strung out? you're still at university, right? i haven't finished a degree yet but i'm guessing everyone worries about what they're going to do once they're thrown out there into the big, wide world.

if i may be so bold, what are you planning on doing?

as for the art- i love the alien, insectoid design of this creature. the vibrant, red, fleshy back drop maked for an interesting setting for something so skeletal and wizened. also, bloc party?

also - yes, bloc party

I'm planning on going back to the company I did placememnt at - Blitz Games. I really loved working there, with the right kind of people and environment, and hopefully that should happen soon (although not within 2 months cos i gots ta finish my course first!)

I'm not in a rush to burn through life ... but sometimes on the quest for happiness you become in a hurry to always get away from the perceived troubles you have around you at the time.

When in reality, the best days of your life are happening right now, if you're ready to see them

You are living a conundrum, my friend. I feel that way as well sometimes--I'm especially afraid I will feel more that way once I'm out of school. It will suck indeed...

I agree with many here--that you should continue doing what you like and gain some inspiration somewhere, but I wouldn't recommend it right away. You should just take a break and do something else--stuff like reading, writing, cooking, solving math problems, etc. Then go back and continue your artistic pursuits. From what I can deduce for when I feel the same way you do, it's probably just because you've done this stuff for so long that you run dry of what motivates you.

I have no idea if this makes sense, but hopefully you get what I mean--inspire yourself after you indulge yourself. (I have no idea if that made sense either...)

Then again, I do agree with you on doing things that might not catch your fancy. You shouldn't do what you enjoy all the time. Balance is the key to a good life. Do the things you love on the side of making sacrifices for the things you don't like. Enjoyment is relative, and too much of a good thing is always a bad thing. If you receive candy, take it and don't ask for more. If you do, that first piece of candy won't be as sweet and special in comparison and you'll get sick of it. Thus, why I suggest a diversion to take you attention from wanting more... am I right?

you're right pal ... and its a problem. I mean ... it just sounds fundamentally sadist to not do what you enjoy all the time. Tricky ...

Thanks for the feedback

I can totally agree with you, i always spend so much time thinking about what to do next that by the time ive tohught of it ive ran out of it.

sure is I knew someone had to get it! One of my fave songs

and thanks ... yeah its tricky. To get what you want in life ... you have to plan ahead. But what I really want in life is to not have to plan ahead. Paradox ahoy!

Everyone's already said it, but the muse will come back. It doesn't ever really go away
Planning ahead doesn't sound like a bad thing, I wish I did it more...but yeah, too much planning ruins the fun out of the present. Enjoy it! And hey, there's always Lost...or maybe supernatural. Cough.

As for the wtf thing you've drawn/painted? I'm digging the exoskeleton shell and it's seriously creeping me out that it looks hollow .

I'm just in one of those terrible moods where to every possible action I do or plan I say "whats the point, we're all gonna die so may as well do what I enjoy". I dont like it and it annoys me -_- Wish I could just switch that off sometimes and get on with stuff ... easier said than done though eh?

All up to date on LOST now, but havent yet touched Supernatural i'm afraid I'm sure it'll just be that i'l watch the first episode sometime ... and the rest will fall into place. Just gotta watch that first episode, hehe

Thanks for the support ! Means a lot!

We all have our downtimes. The culture lies to us about our ability to produce. It tells us that everyone has the same capacity to do anything -- as if we were machines made to maximize production. The thing is, if you want to be happy drawing and painting, you must never force yourself to do it. If you don't want to do it, then don't do it. Simple as that. Not everyone is the same. And, to add another dimension to that statement, not everyone is the same person all the time. Our wants shift. Just don't resist that shift, and you'll find yourself loving life a lot more.

Ah i know that ... I mean i'm mixed in opinions as to what to say to that. In some ways I do believe that sometimes you gotta do what you dont want to do for the greater good - like life drawing for example. I dont particularly enjoy it but its an essential.

Yet in life, when we're at the end of it and we're all old, the things we'll remember are the good times ... and the good times are defined by what you enjoy. So you should just do what you enjoy? tricky.

Thanks for the support! I'll see what I can do Mind over matter i guess ... shame that its the mind thats the problem XD

Expressing yourself for the sake of expressing yourself!

I know in my case, it's because I love designing things, worlds, the ability to create something. God complex, maybe. But there's a billion universes inside me, all wanting to be expressed.
Planning ahead is always good to do, it leads to a stable future- but you gotta take the time to be spontaneous every now and then!

Eitherway, it's wonderful stuff as always, man. I keep trying to get into digital painting but I can't seem to get faces right.

martinhoulden In reply to Xeno-Rei [2009-03-05 16:28:31 +0000 UTC]

ah indeed. Same here. I normally get the mix relatively ok. Just recently I've been starting to question myself what I really enjoy.

But thanks! And the best way into digital painting is to literally just try stuff and approaches youre not used to. If you *try* and make digital fit around what you think you already know, its pretty tough. For me ... ideally i'd have loved to have taken my pencils into digital and paint them up. But I found it doesnt work quite how I thought it would. I pretty much now have a totally different approach to drawing in pencil to what I do when working digitally.

Good luck though! and thanks!
