Description moΒ·ment A brief, indefinite interval of time

This is the main series from my trip to Paris. It's been turned into a book (which you can buy here! ). The book contains the full series of twenty pictures. I've got ten pictures lined up for dA and I'll upload one per day to keep your watchboxes from getting swamped

Excerpt from the preface:

To me it's about being able to go down a street seeing the thousands of different stories unfolding right in front of my eyes. It's fascinating watching these slices of life brush past you. But where do these moments end up when you're gone? Who records them, to prove that they ever existed?

You get extra points for taking a unique approach to shooting this.

I love the emotion in the photo. A number of different people could look at it and think a number of different things, but to me it looks like he is in search of inspiration..

Maybe he was, maybe not.. but that is the mark of a great photo. Being able to tell a story with no words..

Traditionally, documentary photography is specific, so I dont know if this fits there as much as it does street..

The only thing I dont like at all about this frame, is the empty space at the top. The extra bit up there should be cropped out. In my opinion, at least.

I guess all I can say is thanks!

I do agree with you about the documentary vs. street thing. But I chose to submit this to documentary/editorial because this was what the series was originally intended to be. Sort of a crossover between the two.. I actually had a pretty hard time choosing though as many of the shots in the series are clearly more "street" than they are "documentary" shots. Luckily for me the two categories mix pretty well, so you're actually the first one to point it out (only goes to show how much people actually knows about the difference between the two categories I guess )

I agree with though, the blank space on the top is a bit of a bummer.

I guess it all gets down to a matter of taste. But thanks for looking and your input!

there is something very lonely about this photo. we see the one single man in front of the one painting. but as we all know in a gallery there are several pieces, and many people.

but this photo has effectively separated the one man and piece, like they're off in their own little world. it's almost like saying one piece can speak to one person specifically.

in the end , great photo. I enjoy this one very much

I really enjoy this piece. I find it peaceful (pun?). We are the viewers of a viewer in a moment of pondering. I don't know how many times I've sat in his spot in other museums. Maybe that's why I find this so comforting.

Something else that I want to bring particular attention to is the perfection of having the viewer be in focus, not the work of art. This little decision gives it strength.
