it's a series of pictures of the aerial toll-houses and many of them have the name of a Deadly Sin, Laziness being one of them. It is not the artist choice of words but how the artist decides to represent it in an image.

Dude, IT'S JUST A DRAWING the artist is not making anyone think they have to do one thing or the other.

Plus, if you think people have the right to do whatever they want, shouldn't you also think that they also have the right to DRAW whatever they want? Think about it

These are interesting, however the point of the deadly sins is that they are not ugly or dark, but appealing and fun, that is why people do them.

except it is not a representation of the Deadly Sin, it's a representation of the toll house of that sin, it's different. here is a small description, the artist put in another picture:

following a person's death the soul leaves the body, and is escorted to God by angels. During this journey the soul passes through an aerial realm, which is ruled by demons. The soul encounters these demons at various points referred to as 'toll-houses' where the demons then attempt to accuse it of sin and, if possible, drag the soul into hell. [...] Every person has demons that tempt them. These demons keep a record of every sin of thought or action they succeed in tempting a person to commit, though repented sins are erased from the demonic records. On the third day after the soul separates from the body, according to this account, it is carried by angels towards Heaven. On the way, souls must go past twenty aerial toll-houses. Each toll house is populated by demons devoted to particular sins. At each toll-house, demons demand that souls "pay" for their sins by giving an account of compensatory good deeds. If the soul is unable to compensate for a sin, the demons take it to hell.

So, it's not about tempting the people that come through the toll houses but reminding these people what sins they have commited in the past and trying to make them pay for said sins. Therefore it makes sense that the Deadly Sins would now look ugly and dark instead of appealing and fun because that how they looked when they were commited but now it's time to face the consecuences.

Hope that made sense.

Yeah, if you're a psychologist. If you're a medieval Catholic priest, they're ugly.

No!

If you are human they are appealing, and If you're a medieval Catholic priest, they're ugly.

There ya go. Can't argue with that one. Except: Catholic Priests aren't human?

lolz, a joke,
its just I have seen lots of nasty and evil looking art for deadly sins, but never nice and appearing. So seeing another "dark" sin illustration is meh.

Oh, lol.

I think deadly sins and toll houses would be very hard to pull off as attractive. Considering death is normally considered bad in itself. So anything 'deadly' would probably be very difficult to depict in a softer light unless you were to make them more humanistic. Like, instead of depicting them as sins, you could depict them as just...things humans are prone to do (because they're human) and title the work 'Seven Deadly Sins' or whatever. And that would make your viewers go, "Hmmmm! My puzzler is puzzled. But in a good way."

The thing that bothers me in contemporary religious art (at least that on Deviantart) is how often succubi are portrayed as attractive. Making them attractive, takes away the dangerous, deadly, frightening things about them that they are known for. So if you're going to have a sexy succubus, I think you should make that succubus do something awful to her victim, rather than portray the two as lovers. It's predator versus prey not..."Wanna get it on with a red chick? Sure ya do." I get that it's supposed to be the whole femme fatale thing, but...still. One day I found an image that actually did depict and attractive succubus torturing her victim and it did not look pleasant. Which is different compared to what I normally see on Deviantart, which is Succubus + Man = Awwwwwww Yeah. ((Needless to say, I faved it and left a comment expressing how refreshing it was to see.))

It is all very hard, to comeup with something interesting original and impacting, as an artist.

So yes, you are right, to find that balance and represent something appearing but repelling at same time is a challenge!
