Description Anybody who knows me, knows that I love the artwork of Joe Mad (Joe Madureira). He's got a new video game coming out called Darksiders: Wrath of War, which is looking great and reflects alot of Joe Mad's artwork and style.

I'm a huge fan of fantasy, and really enjoyed things like Battlechasers, Lord of the Rings, Record of Lodoss War, etc. so this opportunity to take part in this contest was just a chance I couldn't pass up.

So for my pin up, I decided to have War in the heat of battle, up to his neck in demons, having to slice his way through the horde of them, pretty much like the game would be.

I also included elements from the game, like the angels flying above, and more demons showing up, via meteorites falling from the sky.

As per usual, as in most of my work, I really do my best to make my backgrounds look as good as they can be. Part of the fun is to draw the full building lightly in pencil, then start taking chunks out of it, sort of like a Jenga game, lol.

Overall, this was a very fun piece to draw, and I really enjoyed my experience. Hope you all like it too, Marvin.

Thanks man, I'm currently process of colouring it up right now, since one of the guys I'm competing up against did a collaboration with a colourist. So I gotta bring it man, lol.

I knew you love his stuff! Because you told me ... that one time.

Blah.

Anyways, well done! Excellent composition... not to mention the detail. Yes, as everyone else has said.

I hope I mentioned before how impressive the amount detail you create is. This looks even more indepth than the backgrounds of your Emma Frost/Wolverine pages.

Hey Jenn, thanks for the kind words on the piece for the contest. I'm a detail freak, and dang proud of it at times, lol.

If there's anything I pride myself, is that I create some dang good backgrounds, which most young artists can't or don't, lol.

Cool, I like to think that I'm getting better with each picture, so I'm glad to hear that someone else tell me that, lol.

Wow.

I remember seeing it when it was half finished, and now seeing the final product, God damn, amazing!

You rule Marv!

Hahaha, hey Alvaro, thanks for the kind words man. When you saw it last time, I had only been inking the line art at that point and the background wasn't even started yet, lol.

So I'd say you saw it about 1/3 of the way through, once the backgrounds, shadows and rendering got all done.

I'd say in total time, it took about 3 days to actually get it finished and in it's completed state, that you see before you.

Here's hoping, but given that it's DeviantArt, I'm gonna be competing against some pretty stiff competition from around the world. So we'll see. Heck, I wouldn't mind coming in second place, I'd get a $1000 American Express Gift Card, lol.

lol, well I can only do my best to do just that, lol. I think it should be the goal of every artist to push themselves to be even better than the last piece of artwork they created. At least, that's my goal, I can't speak for other people, lol.

Hahaha, thanks Elaine. I do the best I can. The massive amounts of detail comes from the first comic book I ever picked up, being a George Perez drawn issue of Justic League of America from the early 80's, lol.

George Perez is one of my favorite artists. I do also believe that he was the first artist I ever saw on a comic and bought when I was a kid (on Wonder Woman).

Yeah, his Wonder Woman stuff is some of the best of his career I think. That's probably because, he also wrote it as well, which freed him up a bit.

But I think personally, I loved his work on the New Teen Titans and Crisis on the Infinite Earths, which captured my heart and soul as a kid, seeing that George Perez work.
