Description Posable sea serpant I have been working on for a while now.
He's my first posable, I've been wanting to make one for a while so he's my practice

His head, fins, and tail have been hand sculpted from polymer clay. Then he was sewn, stuffed, painted and accented.
He has little pieces of blue glass embedded in his tail.
Fur is hand colored by me also

He is about 1 1/2 feet long.

can you make me a dragon that is hot black and hot pink details (cause it contrasts) and make her wings a light blue see through glass ( normal dragon wings) and standing on her back legs and little arms infront of her
I hope i inspired you!

Hmm well I don't have glass so the wings would have to be made of clay or shrink plastic, but I could put some nice crystals on them or something It's easier for me to keep track of notes than comments, I'd love to talk to you about a commission if you could send me a note

What a cutie - and nice colors, too! Do you happen to have any photos/details about how you attached the fur to him? I've always wondered about that with posable dolls... does the fur need to be sewn, or will glue do the trick? How does that stand up to constant bending?

I really like him. Great detail on the sculpture!

Thanks so much!!!
I always wanted to make a poseable doll and had the same problem with the fur! My friend found this wonderful guide by a really talented person and showed it to me: [link] The link to the second part is at the bottom, it really helped me with the fur part, which is where I was unsure of what to do!
Sewing the fur on and then glueing at crucial parts helps keep it in place, such as the base of the neck or where a flipper starts loctite gel glue works super well for me, it adheres to clay and fur very well!
For the wire, it stands up to constant bending, but only if you make the wire structure underneath by bending the wire by hand and not with pliers. pliers or another metal tool will cause metal fatigue. The only parts of the armature i used any tool on were the ends where I snipped it your hands will take a little extra abuse from getting poked by wire and such, but it will be so worth it in the end when your creatures body stands up to anything! I also wrapped the base wire in thinner wire as an 'extra extra' precaution

I'm long winded, sorry I'm very happy you like him! He will hopefully be the first in a long line!!!! all of this positive feedback really helps me to move through the next project

Thank you for the great and very thorough reply, as well as the tutorial link. That really helps me a lot!

One idea I was toying with is getting wire that is coated - I think the coating is just flexible plastic. I saw it at the hardware store and have been pondering it ever since. It seems like that would help with avoiding getting poked by sharp wire a bit more... as well as provide a failsafe if the wire does ever snap.

I am so in love with posable dolls now.

You're welcome I'm glad I could help you!!!
I think coated wire would work great, it should make your armature stronger
I saw some at the craft store and have been meaning to pick it up ^-^ I was thinking the same thing, especially if someone was ever accidentally rough with your posable, like children for instance haha
I am too! I have so many ideas for them, I keep getting ideas faster than I can make them you should make one too!
