I just try to always challenge myself and keep trying no matter what. Keep looking at other photographer's work that you admire and try to figure out what it is that you like about it, so that you can learn to do the same in your own style.
Practise using different techniques, and read lots of tutorials as there are so many great free resources around.
It also really helps if you have good editing software, I use Photoshop and I really love experimenting with it and I'm always learning from others.
Remember that as long as you love what you're doing and you keep trying, you can only get better

I know lots of people who use Light Room, and I think it's really good but I just prefer Photoshop.
I have a Canon EOS 20D, it's quite an old camera and it's pretty close to dying so I also have to upgrade! I really love Canon's but Nikon's are also great, If you decide to upgrade I would recommend getting one off ebay or second hand if you have a tight budget - that's what I'm trying to do
