Yay, my first submission of 2010!
And of course it's a fanart of Tamora Pierce's Alanna and Kel... fighting. Who will win??? Alanna looks like she's having a lot of fun... and Kel looks ready for some serious action...!Hrmm... hopefully I'll have time today to actually ink and color this (with actual colors, haha).
Please excuse the strong colors... I was just fiddling around in Photoshop...
ps. I thought it would be cute to draw an owl like that on Kel's shield but it looks like a totem pole face... I'll change it later....

Possibly my favorite quote in all the Tortall series.
It's about time someone draw artwork of Tortall's greatest warriors in battle! Kel's year-mates would probably be shocked to see this, for you've managed to make the Lump smile. What makes this picture hilarious for me is the knowledge that the 19 year-old commander that courageously defied the Crown's command and invaded Scanra to rescue her charges and destroy King Maggot's killing machines is about to get trounced by someone's mom.
I had always wanted to know even a little more about what happened to Kel after Lady Knight, but all that Tamora Pierce has written so far is the one duel between Kel and Alanna just like this.

Yay! I love you TP fan-art, it really is awesome and you draw the characters really well.
As for the owl... I think it seems like something the King's Own (Dom's squad) would do for Kel. Half joke, and half B-Day gift or something. ^_^

I love Alanna's expression. It seems like she'd be the kind of person who would be having lots of fun while Kel is all serious about it. I love the idea of giving Kel an owl on her shield. The only thing is that the angle of Alanna's sward seems odd, like the blade is flat but the grip is not.

one critique... shouldnt they look older? i mean Alanna had her shield for 9 yrs before Kel even became a squire so add another 9yrs to that for Kel's training... Alanna would be around 35 when Kel her shield.
