Lilly had developed a number of golems or androids to supplement her lack of numbers. However, their A.I.s were rather crude. She developed the soul drive system, in which an operator possesses a mechanical body or in some cases, wooden puppets or even dirt golems. This is still limited by the number of people she can spare to work them.

Sanya Zima was a talented puppet master, practically a one-woman army with her use of multiple golems. However, she was critically injured and placed into stone storage with the others to preserve her life. During the development of the soul drive system, Lilly awakened Sanya's consciousness and had her test the system. While trying different things, they found Sanya was adept at remote puppetry, still able to control multiple bodies at once as if they were her own. This skill of hers was initially put to use with animated real dolls, but after the Gunnhildr model was eventually developed, she moved onto it in little to no time at all.

A special subspace communication system was also developed, allowing Sanya to control the android body in real time. While this allowed her to control multiple bodies, unlike with the soul drive system, Sanya can't provide mana to the units. While the wellspring of animation grants them movement, all other magic-based systems must rely on their internal mana generators and capacitors.

The head is equipped with a number of built-in sensors. The eyes have telescopic vision and can see heat and mana. A pair of rabbit ear antennae can fold out of her head, granting her omnidirectional awareness to an extent and limited ability to detect telepathic communication. When not needed, they can fold back into her head, allowing her to pass for a normal human if she wished. Her helmet contains a second pair of antennae, more sensory equipment, and better armor.

The body is strong, much more than that of a normal human. In each leg is a built-in holster, normally containing a magic handgun. She keeps magic bullets of different effects on her belt.

Even so, sometimes she needs some literal extra muscle. The arms of the Gunnhildr model she operates can be removed and replaced with “buster arms”. The buster arms have thicker armor and straight enhancing enchantments, along with more aether gills. The backpack contains a secondary mana generator and additional capacitors. The hands have fire type mana metric to fire plasma blasts from the palms, although it could be toned down to the level of fire balls. The buster version is often used to support her regular modes on the battle field.

A.I. development was slow, but the units are programmed with combat skills. Sanya is needed to guide the Gunnhildrs' general movements and tactics, though they are capable of holding their own in semi-autonomous mode. This was improved for the Gunnhildr MK V with the addition of Deana Williams' A.I. However, they still rely on Sanya for leadership.

It is Sanya's personal habit to always have the drones wear their helmets in semi-autonomous mode to cover their faces. She will frequently remove her own helmet if she is directly controlling it, but will leave it on if the situation calls for it.

The faces and wigs of the Gunnhildr units can be switched out easily enough, but Sanya is one of the few people able to control so many.

I was inspired by Prince Lwai from Dimension W, someone who operated a remote android body remotely as if it were his own, to make Sanya. However, for the buster arms, I was going more with Genos from One Punch Man. Maybe I should have swapped out her legs as well to better support her, but that got tricky. I remember Lwai also operating a pair of mecha while on Easter Island, so I thought Sanya might also control larger units as well. I did get the idea of her having a more melee-oriented body, but also came up with the idea of switching out her arms.

Not all of Sanya's bodies are made to look like her. While it took some doing, she is also capable of operating a heavily modified harrier.
