It's not often I am pleased with one of my works. This one I am pleased about. It's not perfect, but it came out nice for a quick look at.

The stance isn't a bland pose. However it is comic book stylish so realistically Zelda's hips being that far out and her spine curving that much would really hurt! But this is the difference between modeling and animation and comics. Yet it gives the look of action and purveys the sense she is in the middle of a desperate attempt to fire that energy arrow. Well, at least I hope this is what it looks like.

Again I am limited by my coloring arsenal of my traditional tools. This piece taught me that there are times to not mix markers and colored pencils. The graininess of the colored pencils stands out versus the smoothness of the skin coloring to me. In a way I thought I could get away with this being seen as clothing texture. Maybe. I even did a criss-cross coloring in style to emulate woven fabric at first. But still, I think this wound up looking very nice in a smaller resolution.

Also there is the lighting in this one. The primary light source was from above as usual, but I wanted the arrow to be one as well. When I am penciling and inking this isn't that tough. But getting my colored pencils to mix correctly presented a problem to me. I have gotten spoiled with digital coloring. Once a mistake is made traditionally there is no "undo" function. I think I got what I wanted on paper to look right with the yellow highlights on the highest exposed areas. More experimentation on this is in order.

Afterthought: There was just something about the Captain N princesses having that open midriff that made them just sexy enough, but not too over the top back in the day.
