Description

Another picture inspired by #inktober52 challenge. It was made in February for the prompt "snake", but I forgot to post it here at the time.

As soon as I read this prompt, I thought that it was interesting and that I should draw something for it. But I didn't have inspiration for anything concrete. So I even made a little poll or suggestion box on my Instagram and many people wrote various interesting ideas for it, but I didn't really feel like drawing anything from these suggestions, however, when I already asked people for their suggestions, I felt certain obligation to draw at least something for this prompt. And at last, I decided to draw this interesting character who appears in something like two paragraphs of the Lord of the Rings:

Théoden King of the Mark had reached the road from the Gate to the River, and he turned towards the City that was now less than a mile distant. (...) Southward  beyond the road lay the main force of the Haradrim, and there their horsemen were gathered about the standard of their chieftain. And he looked out, and in the growing light he saw the banner of the king, and that it was far ahead of the battle with few men about it. Then he was  filled with a red wrath and shouted aloud, and displaying his standard,  black serpent upon scarlet, he came against the white horse and the green with great press of men; and the drawing of the scimitars of the Southrons was like a glitter of stars.
Then Théoden was aware of  him, and would not wait for his onset, but crying to Snowmane he charged  headlong to greet him. Great was the clash of their meeting. But the  white fury of the Northmen burned the hotter, and more skilled was their  knighthood with long spears and bitter. Fewer were they but they clove  through the Southrons like a fire-bolt in a forest. Right through the press drove Théoden Thengel’s son, and his spear was shivered as he  threw down their chieftain. Out swept his sword, and he spurred to the  standard, hewed staff and bearer; and the black serpent foundered. Then all that was left unslain of their cavalry turned and fled far away.
J.R.R. Tolkien: The Lord of the Rings. Book V. Chapter 6, Chapter 6, The Battle of the Pelennor Fields

I think it could be better, the anatomy of the horse is not quite right, but still I am glad I did it and I like the character design and the decorations of the banner. His clothing and gear is inspired by various medieval Saracen warriors that I randomly googled up. If I made a bigger illustrations of the Southrons, I would think it through in more detail, but still I hope you like the design.

I should certainly make more drawings like this just for the practice. And the Inktober 52 is quite encouraging for doing that.
