Description A commissioned thiefling character, seems like people like them a lot lately. As usual, this was a character portrait commissioned for a D&D campaign. People do seem to enjoy a lot having an actual figure beside the stats.

Lacking combat experience or training:

Fighting stance with high, asymmetric center of balanceΒ
Doesn't know how to hold a sai properly

Poorly equipped:
Leather armor doesn't properly cover arms (high risk of defensive wounds)
Three lockpicks in a roll made to hold 7 different tools

0/10, would not adventure with
Β

Stance unknown to you makes it rather difficult to defend against. Also she appears to have been startled and interrupted just after picking a lock. Β
Lack of armor on her arms will make her strikes faster.Β
Her armor looks finely crafted as well as both her weapons, which may or may not be magical. Along with two other weapons at her back and miscellaneous items such as necklace, cape, ring, etcetera. Not to mention the silver Tattoo on her right arm.
I give your poor assessment a 0/10 for lack of perception. Definitely would not role play with.

Is that the race or class? Like human or elf with just enough hellboy for the skin and tail.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

MatesLaurentiu In reply to ACEnBEAKY [2013-08-31 09:22:07 +0000 UTC]

Its both race and class. Thieflings are a race with a demonic inheritance. Not evil, just inheriting demonic traits like horns, tails or various colored skin. Thief its the class. Β

ACEnBEAKY In reply to MatesLaurentiu [2013-09-01 00:11:28 +0000 UTC]

That whole situation reminds me of Hellboy. Similar plight, no? Not a good guy, but not demonically evil, even if he has demonic origins?

MatesLaurentiu In reply to ACEnBEAKY [2013-09-01 06:16:35 +0000 UTC]

Yup, kind of. Don't ask me which one came with the idea first, I don't know. In d&d there are the thieflings (with demonic heritage) and there also the aesimar (with angelic heritage) and there was a time when you could play any of the two. I don't know nowadays, those guys keep changing the rules and the PC's.

She looks more like a rogue or assassin.. quite deadly, this lady I enjoy the light here - although it's dark in this alley, her flustring black eyes and well developed muscles deflect just enough of cold moon light to make the coughing man to turn and run for life.. but you didn't and rather painted her, am I right, painter?
Great story in your comments

More to come soon, nowadays I adjust old characters for a d&d party my partners and friends (Steve Gerke and Justin Mason) and Keith Baker are throwing as a charity party at Gencon. They did it every year lately and this year I think the gathered income is to be donated for the training of searching dogs. You know, the ones that find people in the rubble after disasters. The event is called Mythic Party and if interested you can check out the details here: [link]

Woo! Very awesome picture, and yeah, I agree with that, people tend to like Tieflings and Half-Fiends as characters, mainly because of the coolness factor, of being something partly or half demonic (or devil)

The story -if she would have one - would go like this: "The alley was dark - that was good. It was too silent for that hour of the night, no singing sailors or late fish mongers trying to sell their remaining fish for the day - but she could deal would the silence. She saw the marked door; a faint ray of light was squeezing from underneath but she had to risk it. Her soft boots made no sound on the cobble stones as she sneaked beside the archway of the entrance. She quickly opened her lock pick tools, chose what looked like the perfect one and strained her ear close to the door to hear the soft click of the lock, then moved it around till it gave way. The door opened with no noise but just then, somebody coughed lightly behind her".

I have a weakness for the ram or antelope like horns and I tend to use them whenever I have the opportunity. This kind of thiefling seems to be the new "rage" for the dnd player 'tho I would liked to do some with somewhat different demonic left over heritage.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

galacticpink In reply to MatesLaurentiu [2010-09-12 23:38:13 +0000 UTC]

If I played a Tiefling, I'd probably use the odd horn wrap around the elf ears thing I use on an OC of mine. They're smooth though, more like long and oddly shaped bull's horns. I'm no where near the skill for this level of detail, though. XD

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

MatesLaurentiu In reply to galacticpink [2010-09-13 22:10:15 +0000 UTC]

Well, originally the thieflings were just human with demonic "left over" genes that showed through some horns or hooves, maybe a tail, so you were being given a lot of liberty to build and personalize your character. After some time the guys from WotC settled on the now established image of the horned thiefling pretty much I've represented here.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

galacticpink In reply to MatesLaurentiu [2010-09-14 14:10:38 +0000 UTC]

I gleefully ignore whatever I want for WotC. XD I wasn't as gleeful about ignoring TSR. I mean, I ADORE 4th Edition but the company...? Kinda leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

But I like horns. Horns are cool. XD I respect design choices but if you have a race that can have horns just for the Rule of Cool why WOULDN'T you? XD Tieflings actually managed to dethrone (standard) elves as my favorite standard race. XD

I really like Drow but I'd be the type of DM who would require justification for playing one. Even in modules and settings where they were considered a standard race. XD Of the normal elf groups, the ones known as Grey Elves in 2nd Edition are my favorites. Those winged ones that were in that cool expandable Compendium thing are AWESOME, though.

MatesLaurentiu In reply to galacticpink [2010-09-14 20:47:50 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, but if I would have a thiefling character I would rather go for a look closer to Darth Maul. Considering the great diversity of the Abyss (as described by the WoTC guys) the diversity of the genes pouring into the thiefling would give birth to an huge diversity in how the thieflings look. Standardizing the look wasn't so inspired I think.
Players have their own fault too, they stopped really personalizing their characters and started personalizing the equipment. Believe me, I know

galacticpink In reply to MatesLaurentiu [2010-09-14 21:54:38 +0000 UTC]

Ooooh, that sounds really cool actually. I just like cool horns, I'll admit. XD Yeah, well, WotC... has its issues. Not like any DM has to use anything they don't like (which is why I support shutting up about crappy installments. Just don't use what you don't like. Gygax is rolling in his grave. XD)

I'd love to see that if you ever actually design it, actually. XD
