Description Valka is a master smith and, as expected, a dwarf. She's quirky and a bit weird by nature but people fell in love on the spot with that cute, freckled smile.

Who has said that female dwarves can't be an object for hug and being toched? If she doesn't want to try her hammer on us, of course

Of course they are huggable, how else would the dwarf race multiply. And there are half orc in the fantasy world, I always wondered how come there aren't so many half dwarfs.

MMORPG are crying for your talents

I'm not sure about that. And the couple of MMORPG's I worked on had a very unfortunate fate. I even started to think I'm MMORPG cursed or something.

Easy to say, not easy to do. Some years back I put together a team and we tried to make an animation project who slowly entered decline and ceased to exist. This is what I could salvage from that project in a corner of my personal site: [link]
You can check some of the work done in "Galleries" and in "Downloads" there are a few things too, like a screensaver and a cinematic I've done.
Truly, that was a disappointing experience overall but believe it or not, most of the guys working on that project got enough experience that were guided towards game design and many of them became quite successful.

I've always like pictures of female dwarves.
They strike me as such strong characters.

I guess thats a racial trait (at least in fantasy novels). Mythology speaks of dwarfs as great craftsmen and as being very intelligent but rarely as being warriors. So while the fantasy world shows them like a warrior society, I always tend to see them in a more peaceful light, as being craftsmen and merchants.

Hope you plan to color her and do a background someday.
I'd love to see her forge!

If I get some spare time or if the client requests such an update, I surely will.

Absolutely fantastic, this is how I would expect an attractive female dwarf to be. She doesn't have the average human female's facial proportions, but she still manages to be an appealing member of her race. Lovely work, makes me happy to be watching you.

You forgot to mention, she is a very gifted woman too ..I mean the muscles
Beautiful drawing as always Most of all I like the details on hammer, dirt on shirt, filled belt and her scarf looking like made of a rough cloth

MatesLaurentiu In reply to Eveqi [2013-03-22 20:57:51 +0000 UTC]

Indeed, the client sent back the original sketch because apparently I didn't put enough "muscles" in the chest area. But that got fixed pretty fast.

You always do it in such a special way... I mean your technique, of course. It looks wonderful.
But she looks a bit sad, isn't she?

By the way, was it comission or something else?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

MatesLaurentiu In reply to Dungeon-Spirit [2013-03-24 12:10:45 +0000 UTC]

About 98% of the works in my gallery are commissions. There are many I can't post because of contract terms but what I can post, its here. Besides those I added the occasional work I do whenever I get a bit of free time and draw or paint for my own pleasure.

Dungeon-Spirit In reply to MatesLaurentiu [2013-03-24 13:23:48 +0000 UTC]

So, is drawing the way you work in real life?
Sorry if it is not correct. It seems through your works that you're far not an amateur artist like me. You should have been studying a lot and working for years...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

MatesLaurentiu In reply to Dungeon-Spirit [2013-03-24 19:04:49 +0000 UTC]

I'm a freelancer and I'm self taught, no art schools for me. Nonetheless, I have been drawing since I was 5 and I never stopped, even put drawing and painting before many other things. As for studying and learning, that is something you can do anytime, anywhere nowadays, since informations and tutorials are free everywhere. All you need is the will to learn and a lot of practice.

Dungeon-Spirit In reply to MatesLaurentiu [2013-03-25 01:40:06 +0000 UTC]

That's striking. A lot of great artists (and some of them here, on DA) are self-taughts...
That gives hope

MatesLaurentiu In reply to Dungeon-Spirit [2013-03-25 17:03:48 +0000 UTC]

I don't say schools and teachers and classes are not useful, far from me. I just say that with enough willpower and dedication, with a curious mind and a good connection to the web, nowadays is possible to learn by yourself.
