This piece is a Chronicles of Elantra Fanart.Kaylin and Lord Diarmat… Yes, I really do ship them, as illogical and impossible as this pairing is.
In fiction, I just LOVE characters or pairings that are rare, difficult or even hazardous. One crazy moment, when I reread Cast in Shadow, I swear I saw Kaylin as the “Child of Night” which Makkuron named her to be, and standing by his side as his 'queen'. XD So yeah… My mind can imagine the craziest pairings when it comes to characters I find fascinating, even if they have absolutely nothing to do with each other in canon.

Lol. I know, but I can't help love this crack!pairing. XD It's mostly because I am projecting myself onto Kaylin, and Lord Diarmat is everything I could ever wish for. XD

Oh, I just love the oddest pairings! I tend to find myself drawn to the stranger ones, as well. I don't so much see Kaylin/Diarmat, but I do think we'll see him unbend where she's concerned at some point - they all fall in the end!
I myself love the idea of Kaylin/Nightshade, and have frequently leaned toward Kaylin/Tiamaris. Kaylin/Evarrim has also crossed my mind a time or two. I know we're headed for Kaylin/Severn, but that just makes me sad. I'd rather see Kaylin/Andellan over that!
I look forward to more art in the future. I'd love to see a Kaylin/Tiamaris.

Oh, you have no idea how much I agree with your opinion on this. In the end, I want Kaylin to be happy and loved and cherished, and if the right person for her is Severn, than so be it. But dang it all! This is a fantasy novel! I want to see the impossible pairings, like Kaylin/Evarrim or Kaylin/Nightshade (both of which, often crossed my mind). I would so love Kaylin/Evarrim! I think he'd be great mentor to her. But anyway. Andellan I really see more in love with Nightshade, and I don't think he would love anyone else, but that's again my crazy brain coming up with strange pairings.
Kaylin/Tiamaris now would be fantastic! I'd love that so much.

LOL! I agree with you. We, the readers, would probably find it hilarious, but the people around Kaylin and Diarmat would not laugh a lot. XD Still, I'd love it so much if they could get together, in secret, and 200 years in the future, assuming that Kaylin is immortal...

Despite my surprise at the pairing (I expected to see the Emperor, not Diarmat!), I adore this painting. It is amazingly intimate and tender. And I will now end up thinking about this pairing for awhile.
Definitely going to have to scrape together the funds though for a Severn/Kaylin piece. Is payment required at time of commission or when you are able to actually start work? (I do recall seeing the waiting list is a year+ long.)

As for Kaylin/Tiamaris; oh, I am sure I'll paint it sometime soon! I love that pairing as well.... If I am honest, I pretty much love all pairings with Kaylin and the younger Dragons. Kaylin/Diarmat, Kaylin/Tiamaris, Kaylin/Emmerian and Kaylin/Dariandaros. So I am sure I'll paint Kaylin with Tiamaris soon!

At first I freaked a little because this is like you said such an unlikely pairing but then my mind wandered and with a devious smile I thought: what would Nightshade do?

Lol. I am sure this pairing is sort of a shocker for those who know the characters, and I am sorry for any unpleasant feelings it created. I can't help liking them though. As cheesy as it is, in fiction I love imagining such difficult pairings, where two people hate each other in the beginning, but end up madly in love at the end. But as I've told EternalSpark1000, I don't actually wish to see this written in the novels. What I'd love to see written, is Nightshade and Kaylin.
As for what Nightshade would do if Kaylin would be together with a Dragon? Now that's something else I'd love to see in a fanfic! Lol.

LOL, it was more shock and than amusement, I would definately read some fanfic about Nightshade handling the situation. I am torn between hoping she ends up with Severn (which seems the obvious choice...to me at least) and Nightshade, but if she's immortal why not both?

I actually feel the same as you. The more someone claims something to be impossible, do more I wish to prove them wrong. I think that was one of the reasons why I started liking this pairing. It seemed impossible, and so I constructed scenarios in my mind which made is possible.

ROFL! Yess, I like the crazy pairings... XD Well, an entire head-canon built in my head around these two. I just LOVE Diarmat. I adore him! I won't bore you with the details, but as the years pass in my head-canon, he will see her true value, and learn to lover.... in a few centuries (I am working under the assumption here that Kaylin is immortal due to her true name). XD But that's just my crazy mind coming up with crazy ideas.
This painting actually popped into my mind whilst listening to the song "Woods Darker than Night" from the "Child of Light" video game. When I first heard this haunting melody, I saw Diarmat with Kaylin in secretive, stolen moments, and I loved the idea.
Don't take me too seriously, and I hope I haven't offended you. I love Kaylin the most, and I ship her with a lot of impossible people, including but not limited to: the Emperor, Tiamaris, Lirienne, the High Lord (the brother of Lirienne), Ynpharion, and probably the most outrageous of all, MAKKURON the Outcast! I'll have to paint this one day....
Okay, seriously, ignore me. I was at a friend's bday party, and I had two glasses of wine, which is a glass too many for me.

Oh, I am glad to hear I did not offend you with the painting/pairing. 
Now as to what I want to *read* about in the book, it's definitely Nightshade/Kaylin. They are my most favorite canon pairing. Diarmat and Kaylin are my favorite 'fan fiction' pairing. And only 'cause I like imagining an alternative universe or faaaaar future where they might be possible, I don't actually want to see it happen in the novels. I think even if Diarmat would adore Kaylin (and not see her less than a cockroach), SHE would be most uncomfortable being in his 'environment' (i.e. the Imperial Palace and it's codes of conduct). This is actually one of the things I love about Kaylin. I'd hate the palace as well, for the same reasons she listed in Cast in Flame.
So I definitely don't want Kaylin and Diarmat to be a canon pairing. I really really want Nightshade and Kaylin to be canon, but I know I'll just have to settle for Severn. In the end, I want for Kaylin what is best for her and not what I'd love to see, and until now at least, Severn is the better choice even if I think Nightshade is cooler, sexier and more complex.

Kaylin/Thranduil??? I can't believe the coincidence. I've long integrated Thranduil in my 'head-canon' into Kaylin's world and I think they would be one of the most amazing pairings ever! I just thought not to mention this in my list of "Crazy pairings" for I've already been pushing it with Kaylin/Diarmat, so adding a crossover might have been overkill. Lol. I totally agree with you though. Kaylin and Thranduil would be fantastic.
