It is the year 1975, which marks the 32 year of the invasion of Earth by the species simply known as 'The Race'. The world since the invasion has changed vastly. New nations were formed, borders redrawn and new alliances formed.

Asia was one of the continents that saw huge shifts of populations, as the Race occupied vast parts of the continent in the USSR, Mongolia, the Arabian peninsula Iran and Afghanistan, but especially in China and India. While many people say that the nation most likely to start another global war would be the Union Latinoamericana, there are some concerned military advisers that are more concerned with the hermit-empire of Japan.

The Union of the socialist soviet republics has changed considerably since the end of the last war, most notably was the loss of the Baltic nations, as well as some loss of territory to the Race in central Asia. Delighted to hear this, the local Race administrator opened various cities and even industrial places of the region to Soviet tourists, hoping to slowly bring the Soviet people into their fold. Yet it is peculiar to see why those tourists take so many photographs of industrial sighs again and again.

The Kingdom of Iran is a strong ally of both the US and the United Kingdom, yet still without nuclear weapons. It is trying hard though to acquire them on its own. The Shah has only ceremonial meaning today and no political power whatsoever. There is even a movement in the country to transform the country into a republic as some people fear the Shah might be working together with the Race-empire regain his power.
And while it is not an enemy, it is still a rival to the Arab League, with them occupying quite some Shia-dominated territory in former Iraq and Syria. But many believe that in a future war against the Race, both sides would very likely overcome their disdain for each other and join forces against whoever might threaten them.

The Kingdom of Afghanistan is allied with the Kingdom of Iran, and various parts of the country are either pretty much all the time at the brink of collapse or need to be reconquered by the army because of various warlords gaining temporarily controll over the country-side. Yet the discovery of Rare-Earth elements in the country has brought the attention from the USSR, the USA, India and even the Race, seeing them as a possible future trading partner.

The Chinese republic is a super-power of quantity rather then of quality. It is a nuclear super-power but only barely. Today it is estimated that the region around Taiwan has more than 20 000 long-range artillery guns and rocket launchers at each side pointing at one another, as the Chinese fear a possible Japanese invasion from here.

While the population is not as big as it is OTL, the cities along the coast are even larger then they are today, because of people moving from Race-territory to some place else. Also, those pesky communist terrorists under Mao Zedong in the more far-off regions of the nation cause still quite some trouble, even after all those years.

Korean Republic

After the Race-Terran war Korea regained it independence from Japan, and immediately there was a debate whether or not to re-install the Emperor or not, but it was clear pretty fast that the people did not want another Emperor again. Korea is pretty similar to OTL's South Korea of the year 2000, only that it stretches from Pusan to the Yalu-river. Though Pusan here has the highest concentration of military personal, as it is the nearest to the hermit-Empire of Japan (some say if you would not be shot, you could go from Pusan to Kyūshū without getting wet, because of all the sea-mines and sonar-buoys), which is also the reason why Pyongyang and Seoul as the two largest cities have one of the deepest and most extended subway networks in the world, just in case another war breaks out.

Tibet is still a Kingdom and with the help of the interdimensional visitor it was able to stay independent from China. Compared to other nations it is quite poor, yet the people were able to achieve a certain standard of living. Because of its mountainous location and its determination to stay neutral, some people call it already the 'Switzerland of Asia' . The major difference of course was that Ghandi was not assasinated and able to negotiate with the Muslim minority, so they would get autonomous regions, which in the region where OTL's Pakistan would be has caused quite some problems. The south of OTL's Pakistan is now part of the Race territory, and quite a lot of Pashtuns have decided to stay there and continue their live as always, ignoring the fact that some alien lizards have taken control over their land, which has led in the past to various violent fights, riots and uprisings.

Currently India is negotiating with the UK to obtain nuclear technology which would them allow to build their own nuclear arsenal, as for the moment England is acting as a protector nation for India. India also has the highest percentage of humans that follow the Emperor worshiping, though some say it is just a fad of the current generation.

Sri Lanka is the other major ally of the USSR, acting as their main military base outside the continent. But is also acts as a major tourist attraction (this time real tourists) for sun-hungry tourists from the USSR.

The Degar confederation is not a centralist state like the USSR or the Latin-American Union, more like a loose confederacy between Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, Myanmar and Malaysia, while Singapore managed to stay independent. They are sort of isolationist, so not a lot is known about how the nation really works. What is known that they were able to build their first atom-bomb in 1974, giving the Race a reason to start full diplomatic relationship with them. What is known though is that they have one of the best jungle-soldiers on the planet, as the recent victory over various drug-smuggler cartels in the Vietnamese-Cambodian jungles showed.

Why they choose the name of the ethnic minority of the Degar, or mountain-people, in the Vietnamese highlands for this confederation? Nobody really knows, some assume it was an attempt to apease the various minorities in the confederation, showing they would not try to subdue them.

Indonesia is a mess, yet it managed to stay together for the past decades. Its government contains a weird mix of Fascist, communist and capitalist elements. And while it is still the most populous Muslim nation on the planet, it is quite secular. Because of its large amount of islands spread over thousands of miles, it also has probably the largest coast-guard in the world, but also its normal navy is quite large, even though outdated.

It has loose connections to the United States of America, mostly consisting of trade agreements, yet also some treaties in case of war with either the Race or Japan, so the US Navy could pass through their territorial waters, far off from the danger of Japanese vessels. But lately it has started to get a bit closer to the USSR, as the US are unwilling to cooperate more with them, mainly because the government in Jakarta refuses to reform and be more open.

What is going on in Japan? Nobody really knows. This nation is the only human nation that withdrew from the United Nations of Planet Earth after the war with the Race ended. It is known as the hermit-Empire, as pretty much nothing from Japanese territory leaks out, not even radio-waves.
