I have yet to perfect my portraits.
I come no where near as good as you, though.
I can draw plenty of things, but when it come to drawing portraits...heh
Well you can't judge by what goes in my DA.
I haven't really gotten around to posting my "stuff". Anyhow, when you were drawing this where did you start? I tend to... when i draw animals... to just sketch the whole body out then add details. I can't seem to apply that when drawing humans..buh.

well i thank yuo for the compliment. but really it just takes a whole lot of patience. i think patience is the key to doing something really great. pay close attention to detail and just enjoy what you are doing. thats where i would start out at. physically, i start this drawing with a sketch of the entire thing. i used a grid since it was so big that i knew i wanted to spend way more time on getting details in rather than getting proportions right. then i kind of just started at the head and worked my way down.

and dont be affraid to go dark. that was my problem when i started, even with color, i kept being affraid to go on to the next step in fear that i would mess it up. but really it will turn out alright. and even if you do mess up, it's pencil, it will erase, depending on what kind of paper you are using. and if it doesnt erase, then you have learned something. some of the most famous pieces of artwork int he world have mess ups that you can only see when you are looking at it up close in a gallery (see [link] )

my suggestion is just to keep going at it and if you want to keep working on humans, i would suggest taking a life drawing class. and as far as perfection goes, im still far from perfecting anything in art, or life in general. i think its supposed to be that way for us, as humans. i dont think any of us are perfect, and i dont think we are ever going to be. and if portraits arent your thing, then work on what you like drawing the most.

thank you for the comments!

I always enjoy myself when I'm drawing.
My patience is just rather..ech.
But I try. I know if I really work hard and actually be patient I can actually draw a portrait. Maybe...
I tend to lean more toward sketching and usage of insane colours. Like If I draw people I tend to use charcoal and sketch em' out, but for me to get real detailing I would have to use my pencils. Which I prefer charcoals more?
So you sketch the whole thing out!
That's how I would draw animals.
When It came to people though, I would start by the head and then everything would seem out of proportion. gagh. Unless of course it's cartoonish.

I had a friend in my Drawing 1 class who would always tell me to "Darken your darks". All the time for me to darken my darks. It's true! My drawings would come out nicer and seem like I had detail a whole bunch. One thing for me would be that i really dislike erasing. I tend to not erase and just keep drawing as if the line sticking out of the image was meant to be.

I was planning on taking Figure Drawing this semester, but I ran out of money.
Next semester, though, I will.
I would really like to perfect myself in that category.
Well, what I meant by you being perfect. I meant that in a sense as waaay better than I.
Hah, no one is perfect. I know that for a fact and plus.. -looks at self- ;b

I, Thank You
