I have yet to perfect my portraits.
I come no where near as good as you, though.
I can draw plenty of things, but when it come to drawing portraits...heh
Well you can't judge by what goes in my DA.
I haven't really gotten around to posting my "stuff". Anyhow, when you were drawing this where did you start? I tend to... when i draw animals... to just sketch the whole body out then add details. I can't seem to apply that when drawing humans..buh.

well i thank yuo for the compliment. but really it just takes a whole lot of patience. i think patience is the key to doing something really great. pay close attention to detail and just enjoy what you are doing. thats where i would start out at. physically, i start this drawing with a sketch of the entire thing. i used a grid since it was so big that i knew i wanted to spend way more time on getting details in rather than getting proportions right. then i kind of just started at the head and worked my way down.
and dont be affraid to go dark. that was my problem when i started, even with color, i kept being affraid to go on to the next step in fear that i would mess it up. but really it will turn out alright. and even if you do mess up, it's pencil, it will erase, depending on what kind of paper you are using. and if it doesnt erase, then you have learned something. some of the most famous pieces of artwork int he world have mess ups that you can only see when you are looking at it up close in a gallery (see [link] )
my suggestion is just to keep going at it and if you want to keep working on humans, i would suggest taking a life drawing class. and as far as perfection goes, im still far from perfecting anything in art, or life in general. i think its supposed to be that way for us, as humans. i dont think any of us are perfect, and i dont think we are ever going to be. and if portraits arent your thing, then work on what you like drawing the most.
thank you for the comments!
