Description
I was fortunate enough to attend the Syn Studios "Gathering of Masters" in Montreal. Five days of talks, workshops, and hanging out with like-minded artists from all kinds of backgrounds. It was hugely inspiring to listen to James Gurney, Terryl Whitlach, Samantha Youssef, Raphael Lacoste, and many others. I've been home for two days and I can't stop drawing.
Right now I'm frantically running around drawing everything. Eventually i'll calm down and start focusing, but for now I'm like a humming bird with a pencil.
There are life drawings, animal drawings, anatomy studies, and even some airplanes (picking a subject I have little to no interest in and trying to lean into it).

Oh, what a lovely study! I feel that it's important that no matter how advanced someone is in the art industry, there is always something to learn and/or improve. I was present at the workshop myself, and like you and many others said, it's crucial to learn the base of drawing, be it anatomy, perspective, form, and so on. If the "grammar" isn't good, it's harder to visualize the story as we're so focused on the "wrong" grammar and spelling. I have to say that I was very inspired after listening to all the talks and conversations, yours included, and I'm very eager to start learning the basics!

I really love this kind of updates. Usually we think proffessional artists just draw something amazing and voilà, but actually it´s really, really cool to see the sketches and the "skeleton" of the picture. I think it´s beautiful.

Thank you! That's *exactly* why I do it. There's no magic formula, just lots and lots of self-challenging work. I keep telling younger artists to work on the fundamentals and it always doubles as a reminder to myself. I have to practice what I preach.

Hummingbird with a pencil! Love the joke😛... That looks like such a detailed study, I would never have the patience for something like that. It's also a very nice idea to draw things you originally took no interests in.
Can't believe I am the first one to comment here, this piece totally deserves more attention! You seem very experienced in art, mind sharing some tips and advice? 😆

Thanks! The best advice I have is to work SUPER hard on your fundamentals. They're like your "grammar" in visual storytelling. The better your grammar, the more clearly you can get your point across.

That's true, you do need to be good at walking to start running. It's kind of what my basketball coach says too: work on the basics! Thanks. 🙃
