We were deceived by a lie. We all were. Like Darth Sidious was masquerading as the kindly Chancellor Palpatine that started the Clone Wars, turning the Republic into The First Galactic Empire with himself as Emperor, and executing Order 66 to make The Jedi all but extinct.
