Description
“What do you mean, I can't go?! That's ridiculous, Mayuri!”
“Tch, stop pestering me. You're embarrassing yourself in front of everyone.”
“But this is the Espada we're talking about! You can't seriously intend to take Nemu and leave me behind? I can help you, and besides! What if you don't come--”
“Shut up, stupid woman! Don't you think I can take care of myself and my subordinates?”
“Then why can't I go?!”
“Because you'll just get in my way.”
"What's that supposed to--?"
Mayuri turned, grabbing the back of Yuri's head and kissing her quickly. Yuri froze, looking up at Mayuri. He looked away, a flush coating his cheeks. The other captains, Urahara included, all turned to stare at Kurotsuchi. He'd never behaved like this in front of anyone before, and they weren't about to turn down such a good show. Byakuya was the only person present with the decency to look the other way.
“... Fine.” Yuri scoffed, crossing her arms and glaring at Mayuri. “But if you're going without me, then I need proof that you're going to come back in one piece! And don't think that I'm saying this just because you kissed me, idiot.”
Mayuri grinned, taking a small black box out of his sleeve and chucking it at Yuri.
“There. That's your proof, keep it safe.”
“What? Are you kidding me, Mayuri? What is it, your brain?” Yuri poked sarcastically.
“I already said, it's proof I'm coming back for you. Don't make me have to repeat myself, imbecile!”
Urahara walked to the front, tapping the air with Benihime. “Okay, Gentlemen.” With a slight nod to Unohana, he soon added “And women,”. “Here we go~” A Garganta opened in the space he'd modified, a huge, black, gaping rip in the fabric of the air itself. Urahara stepped back, motioning for the captains to walk through it. “Good luck in Hueco Mundo.”
Byakuya walked forward first, effortlessly creating a path of Reishi to walk on. Unohana and Isane went next, their paths much the same. Flawless. Then it was Kenpachi's turn, and he nearly fell when he first stepped through, his path strong but totally unstable. Somehow he managed, however, soon catching up with the other captains' pace.
“Mayuri-sama.” Nemu said, beginning to walk towards the Garganta.
“Coming.” Mayuri mumbled, turning away from Yuri without so much as a 'good bye'.
“Oi, we're not done here, Mayuri!! You still haven't--”
“Open the box, if you're so curious!”
Yuri grit her teeth, flipping open the top of the box to reveal the contents.
“............” And she was left speechless. "I-Is this...?"
Mayuri laughed, cackling as he followed Nemu through the portal. He lifted his arm up and waved as some kind of good bye.
“I await a favourable response.”
… With one last tremor, the Garganta closed shut, shaking the ground underfoot.
Urahara looked over to where Yuri was standing. She hadn't moved a muscle. “Yuri-chan, are you okay?” He called, walking towards her. “What was it that Kurotsuchi-san gave you?” Admittedly, his curiosity was getting the better of him. He tipped his hat, pouting as Yuri didn't give him a response. “Yuri-chan?
Suddenly and completely out of the blue, Yuri's legs gave way, and she collapsed to the ground on her knees. “Mayuri, you idiot. Giving me something like this....” Yuri cursed, clenching her fists and holding the small box close to her chest. “You'd better come back.” Inside the box, inside the satin lining and atop the minuscule cushion was a note. An untidy scrawl, obviously written by a very rushed Kurotsuchi. It read:
'Happy now?'
Resting underneath the note was a ring.
