Both are based on the samurai helmet motif and neither faceplates, head crests or ear antennas was new when Gundam appeared either.
It's more that the Gundam was made more generic on the behest of Clover (the toy company that sponsored the first show) and Transformers are generic by design since they also have to act as puzzlebox toys.
I love both Transformers and Gundam but I have to say that on the whole boxy superhero like robots is not unique to either. What makes them such is that Transformers are characters in their own right and that Gundam robots doesn't transform into anything specific.

Not truer the zeta, wing, wing zero, and sevral other gundams and MS all have a alternit flight mode or mobile aromor mode.
Also evry MS has its oun 'Persanlty'

Yeah, there are transforming mobile suits but they don't exactly transform into specific trucks or planes. They just reconfigure into something vaguely a thing. I don't see any problem with that, don't get me wrong. The Zeta Waverider is a cool plane but it's not a Macross jet right? I even love things like the Psyco Gundams death box mode or the delicious "Gundam on its back with shield over the head" that is Wing.
Personality by design and personality by being an actual character is different. A wolksvagen beetle has a lot of character but it isn't Herbie or Bumblebee since it doesn't act on its own.
I'm not hating so don't try and interpret it as that. Things are just different.

Both have common ancestors in Tetsujin 28 and Mazinger Z. Gundam even goes as far back as Starship Troopers in terms of inspiration.
But what really set off Transformers was a show that premiered three years after Gundam: Super Dimensional Fortress Macross (1982). Not the show itself but the Valkyre jet with its perfect transformation. Shoji Kawamori who was one of the Macross creators also designed some of the Diaclone robots that became the Transformers around that time as well.
Transformers didn't really become itself until 1984 when Hasbro commissioned Marvel Comics to write the mythos however.

only starship trooper i know of is the 3 live action movies and the cg tv show from the late 90s to eraly 2000.
but i dint know robtec was befor trasformers but it dose make scenace thoe.

Starship Troopers, the book those movies and such was based on was written by Robert A Heinlein by the end of the fifties. It inspired both the "space marines" thing, the alien bug horde scenarios and a little thing called "mobile suits".
Yes. The picture here is very, very clearly a Gundam. There is no Transformers anywhere in that design.

power armor is less then a exo suit.....
the classing i learned is as fallowed
Power armor-a basic armor that only miner enhance ment to avrage soders and is about the same size. ie sm armor in 40k the armor spatens wear in halo and so on.
exosuits stand betwen 10 to 20 feet in hight and can be used for warfair, cunstutin and salvige work. examples are the demin mobiles in gundam uc time line, the mashines in exo force, and most light mechs walkers.
mech/Mobile suits are between 45 and 70 foot in hight avrage one to 2 pilots and can be used in varing roles.
Ie gundams, cores (the mechs from armored core) the mashines frommech warrior, the roboteck fighters, and others like these.
Moible armors/Meck tank/fighters. are often same size as mobile suits or biger then captle ships and can have up to a 3 to 4 man crew all have exstrmly heavy weapons and ether or both some type of eangery shields or incradabule speed.
Beond those only leaves what i call soper mech weapon/mobile ships. ie the macross, devile gundam callonie form or any other that is or ecdies the size of a ship.

Classification and stuff just depends on the fiction. Power armor and exo-suit are exchangeable with one another in reality and in the ST book this is the sort of thing that the Mobile Infantry uses.
There was even a Starship Troopers direct-to-video anime in the 80's. The designs in it are pretty cool, check it out.
