Description I have been practicing flint knapping recently. I'd reccomend it to anyone with the idea that pre-historic man, even back as far as a million years ago, was in any way less intelligent or capable than we are today - it's HARD!

so anyway I'm working on things inspired along those lines. I'm contemplating engraving onto this sort of thing but ... well if I do it you'll understand why I'm reluctant to potentially ruin something that already took me several hours! (that's not including sanding, polishing and lashing). This was the first time I'd ever done lashing so I'm fairly happy with it. I learned a lot on this one

Oh I almost forgot, the arrowhead itself is 1.25 inches long, the whole carving from the start of the lashing to the tip is just over 3 inches.

Comments and critique would be very much appreciated

If I remember rightly it's a waxed cotton.
the lashing was one style I found on the net - there are a few but currently my favourite is smilar to a blood knot.

Beautfully done! I've always thought that are ancestors from waaaaaaaaay back probably had more intellect than we give them credit for. That we haven't evolved that much! If anything, we've probably become lazier, both in mind and body!

The oldest hand axes apparently date back 3 million years!

this is just the art we have found, which if you think about it is extremely unlikely to be even close to the oldest art given it's very unusual location.
Considering this [link]
I recon people would have been making art on their bodies, tree bark, exposed rocks etc. for tens of thousands of years earlier than that.

Wow - that's old! Wouldn't it be amazing to have a time machine and just be able to go back and observe these ancestors of ours!

you can through thier work - like their knapped tools and what they carried with them (ttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/%C3%96tzi_the_Iceman).

I'd like to be competent at bushcraft for similar reasons.
