Old OC from long before the first two Awdry Extravaganzas confirmed the canonicity of bloomer along with the basis for the TK&E coffeepots and W&S engines. This engine doesn't exist in my AU since bloomer defeats the point of his existence but I still do like the guy despite that

The basic origins I have for this engine is this:

With the extension to Brendam underway in the 1900s, the W&S had made plans to introduce a new express engine that would lead the railway into the new century, this, however, did not fully materialize when W&S No.4 was purchased and the extension to Brendam was abandoned. Then the TW&S in 1912 tried completing the engine (now named Tidmouth's Rocket, after the railway's terminus station and the fact that it (should've) been the fastest engine in the fleet) once again to act as a flagship for the new railway, only for the NWR merger to occur in 1914, leaving the engine to immediately become surplus to requirements after the war. After being left abandoned at the back of Crovan's Gate Works, nearly being lost in both the fire at Crovan's Gate in 1930 and during a bombing raid in the 2nd World War, Rusty Red Tim (a nickname workman gave him over the years) was finally sold off to the Vicarstown Transport Museum in the 1970s, where he was restored to working order and now hauls enthusiasts specials across the island and sometimes even abroad on heritage railways.
