Unconventional Mermaid - Scaly Foot Gastropod

I was torn between a LOT of different creatures for my last Unconventional Mermaid, but after reading up on these guys, they were an absolute win. They have iron infused in their shells and armour, they live on hydrothermal vents, and they store and grow a bacteria in a gland in their shell to eat instead of running around looking for it. On top of all that, their colour schemes are super cool.

All of this screams sea-witch-brewing-potions-in-discarded-shell-hats to me.

The background had me pretty stumped (and I admittedly am still unsure if I'm done with it). On the one hand I wanted to make the chimney darker, but then the whole piece would be very single-toned (and dark, at that). Part of me wanted to make the tube worms darker to blend in more, but in every picture I've seen they stand out very sharply against the rock they're growing from. So in the end I'm leaving it where it is.

And that's that! My final Unconventional Mermaid, and I'm done with this wretched paper! (I am so excited to never, ever use this paper again. 100 sheets later and I am DONE.) But it's not goodbye forever! I just want to work on some other series for a while, but I'll always have this one open to add on here and there when I'm in the mood for it. (And after Mermay, I could definitely use a break from mermaids for a bit. )

AND, now that I have the first series over, I'm going to be making sets of prints! Each set will have one of all 17 Unconventional Mermaids done as 5x7 postcards, to be used as either a standard print or to send to a friend. Sets will be $25 (+$6 for shipping within Canada), and I'll post as soon as they're available. Let me know if you're interested so I have a rough idea of how many to have made!

So what's next?
It's a toss up between a few different series (basically the same concept, though). I'll put up a poll in a day or so to gauge interest, and my decision will be based on a mix of the higher votes and what I'm in the mood to draw the most. My goal in the end is to have three or four series I can add to periodically instead of having to stick with one series at a time. (And, of course, commissions will be happening throughout.)
