Bog
~Built more for mud than water, this species eats the bodies preserved in the bog. When food runs low they lure in new prey: some light small fires, others mimic baby cries, others still a woman wailing. Folklore rises to warn people away from their ambushes, but by then the bog is full, and by the time the hunt is needed again the old warnings have faded into fairy tales.~

Obligatory "a paranormal investigator was investigating claims of a haunted bog and he disappeared and all that was found of him was this footage" comment here.

"Wait, so if they eat the bog mummies, why do we keep finding some that are thousands of years old?"
She's saving them for a special occasion, like an aging wine. (And then these blasted anthropologists came in and stole it. I WAS SAVING THAT FOR THE SOLSTICE, STEVEN. No respect these days.)

They have blades on their scalp and arms to help cut through plant roots as they half-swim-half-tunnel through the mud. I figure the blades are a mix of keratin and whatever ore is common in that particular bog. While the one on the head makes the most sense (it would be the forefront of slicing through the plants), it also looks kind of dumb, so I with I had left it to the arms.

I had bigger plans for the bog but I started having some difficulty with layering (and then I got grumpy) so I left it where it is. As a result she doesn't blend into the scene as much as I'd like. I like how the skin turned out, though.

Done with a mix of Polychromos and Marabu aqua inks.

SIDE NOTE: I just realized I could have been playing the "MerMayContainBirdseed" pun this whole time. Half a month lost.
