Thank you sooo much! Now I know how to cell-shade clothes <3 I thought there's a trick, or the person who shades something (sorry for my bad english lol xD) is just clever, and that I would never be able to shade. Now I understand ''why'' do we shade clothes like that XD (if you understand, you are really smart because I don't know how to explain .__.) Anyway, thank you soooo much <33333

If you blur isn't it considered water shading?

i don't know the terms. I just know the technique. ^^b

White knighting? I'm just saying if you're a novice, you have no rights to be trying to teach others. People who don't know what they're doing shouldn't teach others what they're doing.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

mayshing In reply to Get-fancy [2012-08-14 17:37:46 +0000 UTC]

I taught what I know, I didn't teach what I don't know,
but thanks for filling in what I didn't know about the terms. I appreciate that.

If you know better, go ahead and teach more to this community, raise others level up.
I don't mind if you say I am wrong, if you are right, I will learn from you.
May success come your way.

Apparently I did this mostly for people who help me on my manga work,
because they struggled to adapt my style of cell shading,
but it seemed a lot of other people felt they needed it.

Get-fancy In reply to mayshing [2012-08-14 20:53:59 +0000 UTC]

I shouldn't teach anyone anything, I have not mastered any skills. If I still have space to work on why should I tell others how to do it.

wow, way too advanced skills for me

i struggle with a straight line. im not even at a step where i can color pictures

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

mayshing In reply to Hergman [2012-08-13 17:00:03 +0000 UTC]

if u struggle with straight line its a drawing problem. O_o just practice with your hand on a sketchbook or a scrap paper until you can do it at least.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Hergman In reply to mayshing [2012-08-13 17:10:23 +0000 UTC]

well, its just that i remember a few years back when i used a ruler and still got way off tangent.

though it seems i got better with drawing with a mouse on the computer without noticing. heck just look at one of my drawings from a few months back [link] to one i just finished [link]

i didn't realize i got better until it hit me so hard.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

mayshing In reply to Hergman [2012-08-13 17:30:36 +0000 UTC]

mouse is hard, to do mouse its best using just line tool. Not free hand.
Other wise u should invest in a 99 dollar tablet and start practicing on it.

yeep
too costy for something i won't do often.
i think its better to pay 3$ at the local print shop so they scan the drawings i do by hand

ninjassinwolf [2012-08-12 02:07:46 +0000 UTC]

i adore this tutorial, not cause of the cell shading, but the examples. i have seen a LOT of cell shading tutorials (actually whats weird is im better at drawing real life shading then cell shading XD) but anyway not my point, my point is i love how you broke up the shapes and gave them simple examples, like the cylinder and such, for those who dont have eyes for the basic shape of things (i sort of do now but i use to not, then i started drawing hands and learning about the shapes of hands which is a REALLY good exercise...) but anyway, there needs to be more examples of WHY and not HOW. i dont think people understand that concept. i mean some people can accept this being told to them 'the sky is blue cause it just is.' but other people would like to know the why behind it. if you know what i mean. if not then im guess im blowing a lot of hot air out haha. but thanks for the tutorial.

mayshing In reply to ninjassinwolf [2012-08-13 17:01:59 +0000 UTC]

i am glad someone got this concept already on the second tutorial page. That's good.

we will likely run a kickstarter beginning of next year( too late this year) and see whether we succeed, then plan accordingly, right now i don't have enough funds to work on anime and not care about doing other commissions and jobs.

How much funds do you need for the anime? $1,000? Or $2,500?

I wanted to create my own anime, but now I don't want to. I thought creating an anime is simple and cheap. =-="
