The palette is brilliant in its restraint, yet how much is skillfully represented. It is quite lovely how the subtleties of the elements in shadow convey perfectly their form and remain subtly distinct in colouration. Careful application of glow, notably along the door and ceiling, capture the presence of light and its interactions with various textures. The sharp geometry of the composition serves effectively to separate light from darkness; it was what caught my eye when I first saw it.

I think (but I have to say I have no idea of paintings whatsoever) the way you use the brush and paint tiny little details in a very realistic style is similar. For example I had this in mind:Β  www.pinterest.de/pin/121315783…
