Old Master Study: - this is my take of a 1640 masterpiece painting by #‎Velazquez named 'Mars Resting'

I did this to learn his technique, or atleast attempt to... By reproducing it I put myself in his shoes and confront the same challenges he went through in some aspect...

This is one of my favourite paintings by one of my favourite artists. This is an image of the god of war Mars... Usually when artists paint him they depict him a young muscular warrior in his prime, Velazquez chose to make a more psychological image and depicts an old man past his best or prime with his muscles sagging and almost feeling sorry for himself... He creates a beautiful image worth contemplating and admiring
