Description
Last year I had this experience with a theatre company of convict people and I was a bit surprised by their candour and innocence.
During a break they saw a group of kids playing football nearby and they ran there, improvising a brief match.
To say it with the words of J. L. Borges, quoting the final verses of Luke XXIII, a poem about the wrongdoer who was crucified with Christ and asked him for salvation:
O friends, the innocence of this friend
Of Jesus Christ, this candor which made him
Ask for his Paradise and gain it so,
Even in the shame of punishment,
Is the same that many a time has brought
The sinner to sin — as it chanced, to murder.
