I assume his line was similar to the one in Predator 2 where the secret agent (what ever he was) guy refers to it as a Predator. More a general term for a carnivorous hunter, "predator".

My belief with Shinnok knowing who the horror movies are is mainly connected to the fact he is an elder god. Thus, he has knowledge on all things in existance.
Although it does not explain how Scorpion knows fire is Alien's weakness, and how Sub-Zero knows of the clan Leatherface is from.

okay, the legend of Jason Vorheese is well known even in his own movies and regarded after a few movies as a ghost story.
Heck come Jason goes to Hell a SWAT team goes after him,
and Jason X he is a well known Earth myth type of character and before then had several executions that failed to the point that when frozen the government abandoned the facility.
So if in their universe he'd probably have the same basic status.
