Born as the one and only pup to a lone mother. In some regards, this made his upbringing easier on her - though the absence of his father definitely caused some strain. Often tucked away into the back of the den while his mother set out to hunt or find water for him, Amor developed a sense of independence from a very early age. While still relying on his mother for basic care, this frequent alone time--and the stress his mother clearly experienced being on her own, and now on her own with a pup--caused Amor to hole up his own unhappy feelings and put on a face of encouragement, hoping to ease some of his mother's worries. And so began a long history of valuing the feelings of others above his own. If nothing else, he learned how much a difference he could make by simply pretending to be all right... especially when no one ever called him out on it.

Once he felt he was old enough, Amor separated from his mother. Barely 6 months old at the time and still considered a pup. It was not due to resentment, it was simply because Amor himself was beginning to feel more and more like a burden. Certainly, he was physically able to help her; but the more he reminded her of his father, and the more his mother remembered how and why his father slipped off into the desert, the emotional weight became too much for him to handle. He didn't know what to do, and made the one decision that felt right at the time: Leaving.

He spent years in the desert dunes. Failing to hunt, but learning from experience. Failing to find water, and then learning the signs. Sharing dens with snakes, scorpions... and having to piece together just how to deal with those kinds of inhabitants and intruders. Life wasn't easy, but Amor would not have considered it needlessly difficult. Meditation became his way of calming his mind and cleansing himself of feelings of hoplessness and loss. If he ever regretted leaving his mother, he told himself it was the best choice at the time and forced himself not to look back. He never stayed in one place too long. Slowly, and perhaps somewhat unknowingly, he wound his way to the Following and in his discovery of the place, to Zonje as well.
