Description So, I still have problems with anatomy and proportions. This piece is finally done, and that's about all I can hope for (since it was technically started in 2004 - but with a different piece without the hydra, but it was pretty neat *sniffle*). Her dress was the first thing colored in the whole piece, who knows HOW long before all the rest was done (which I ended up spending most of two days finishing the coloring). And *gasp* I didn't use Prismacolors, for some odd reason; I may just end up going back and using some though... maybe.

And again with the scanner. I should probably go through my pics and actually take pictures of them. Maybe that would work better... The scanner did darken the upper left hand corner of the picture, as well as blur it a little.

This is the second in the elemental sorceress series, which matches the element with related mythical and fantasy creatures. I chose two merpeople (of course), a "seahorse," and a hydra (rawr).

Drawn in mechanical pencil, colored with Crayola map pencils, on sketch paper. Some smoothing over in The Gimp after scanning.

[EDIT] I used The Gimp and went through to smooth over the pencil strokes so they wouldn't be as textured. I mostly like how it turned out. Megan ventures into the world of digital art! Whoo! For comparison, you can view the original at [link]

I like the playing around you did in photoshop. Especially on the scales, they look really nifty. I also like the effect of the background lighting, it makes it look pretty cool beans. The shading on the dress is a little bit flat in the chest area (har har har) , but I don't have much room to talk. I take the lazy way out and draw animals so I don't have to draw clothes :-3

1. Um, it wasn't Photoshop.

2. I didn't touch the scales or the background lighting inside of GIMP.

3. Yes, the blur button kinda went crazy in her chest area, and I really should fix that... there was actually more stuff I wanted to do with this picture, but I had completely forgotten about this GIMP version. I have started playing around with the program some more, so hopefully I can go back and fix some stuff in this picture some more.

4. Yes, but your animals do end up having some clothes anyway. I need to start being more inventive with my clothing designs. They all start to look boring to me. Thanks for commenting though! ^.^

I guess my memory is going, because I could have sworn the scales and lighting look different than that image you showed me one time, loll. Oh well. Yeah, I remember you don't use Photoshop, but I couldn't recall which program you used instead. Since MS Paint doesn't have fancy tools. And yey for finding old versions to mess with. woots.
