After watching Miwa-sensei's drawing vids(Here if you want to watch them--->[link] Knowing Japanese will lvl up the experience)
I thought "Hay, he uses a maru pen...gosh I was always told that nib was mainly for shoujo artists and thus never tried it....hmmm...think I'll give it a go!"
So I busted out the maru pen and fucking FELL IN LOVE.
OMG I LOVE THIS NIB SO MUCHHHHH!!!

Out of curiosity, have you ever tried inking with sharpie?

Nah, sharpies bleed and don't give a good coverage, they're not very useful for inking. I'll sketch in them at cons tho

If you go to school in Japan and major in manga (yes, it can be done!) they only teach you how to use nibs. I like the G pen more, but Maru and G are both used for all kinds of manga. But more than nibs, I still prefer inking pens by Micron or Copic.
This is nice, but the tone in the background throws it off a bit for me

Yeah I know you can use any kind of nib for any kind of manga, just as I also know certain nibs, like the maru, tend to give finer lines which are typically used more in shoujo manga as a generalization. I wasn't saying you CAN'T use anything you want, I was just saying why I ignored it, I had no interest in the fine lines I expected it to produce.
Eh, I'm not a toner, my assistant normally does that ha ha ha so I don't usually use them in my B&W work~

But i use mechanical pencil most.... and edit it in photoshop to make it like an ink look...

lol I always used a maru pen for details. XD Guess there's still a lot I don't know about nibs. Man, that site makes me wish I knew more Japanese. Gorgeous picture, though. Love the background and details in their muscles.

O_O; I'm afraid my drawings tend to look very shoujo-esque. I try to combine the Yu Yu Hakusho- Yoshihiro Togashi kind of style with Karoi Yuki's- Godchild- sort of style..cuz there are elements from both I absolutely love. then I add in my own things XD haha But ppl always say, "Oh that looks like Sailor moon type stuff." Maybe they just don't know their anime? xDDD isn't Sailor Moon consider shoujo?
