Β So, I want to ask you something.. Sorry, I really don't want to sound rude by asking this but... ...Do you think it's that good of an idea to submit your manga, especially the main pages of the story all to DeviantArt and other sites? I'm wondering that because I'm trying to develop my own manga and I'm kinda reluctant to post it on DeveantArt because I fear that it might affect the sale of it if I want to publish and sell it as an actual hardcover.. ..'cause people might think "why pay for a hardcover if you can just read it online for free?"
 I thought of doing something like posting the cover arts for volumes, chapters, etc. on DA and posting the main pages of it to Tapastic (Now called "Tapas") like this user once did with his manga: www.deviantart.com/pixelated-t⦠(He removed it from Tapas because he apparently didn't agree with its terms of service) But now my mind's a bit imbalanced on the options...
Β So what are your thoughts on this? Is it a good idea for one to post their artwork and their main manga to different sites? Or is it a better to just post it all on DA? One other option I could think of is posting the main manga to DA with patreon support, along with creating extra content like more art and miniature side-comics exclusively for hardcover copies, thus, giving people an reason to buy them.. What do you think?

You don't sound rude! I have had this conversation with a lot of webcomic artists, and it is a really common question among older artists who have been around and remember the internet in its earlier stages. Back then I would have said no, but in the last five years it has become apparent that the old rules have changed and if you don't adapt you won't find an audience.
1. People don't really go to websites anymore. I mean, some do (mostly 30+ year olds) but nowadays people tend to follow artists on social media to see their work and find out about convention appearances, etc. Or...
2. People will get all their comics from one source. Tapas, Webtoon, I think people still use SmackJeeves a bit... and I have quite a few people who only read FaLLEN on dA.Β
3. People are surprisingly eager to support indies artists these days! Just as Youtubers are the new celebrities, it's indies artists that are able to get big support from things like Kickstarter and Patreon. People connect more with indies artists and like to follow along with their postings and stay connected, and they want to feel like they helped bring a project to life. I've also had no trouble selling my books at conventions, particularly in the US.Β
There is a caveat, though, and that is that you have to work MUCH MUCH HARDER than if you had everything in one place or if you kept things hidden from the public. I do reserve some things for the printed books-- bonus comics, uncensored art, etc. But nowadays I think it is better to put yourself and your work out there rather than keep it hidden. I don't always like that this is how things are (I would rather just have a single website I had to update instead of like 50 websites...) but I don't know any recent artists who are successful who don't share their work. Before I went on hiatus I had a fair number of supporters on Patreon, and they got a lot of exclusive stuff, but they became supporters because they enjoyed reading my work here or on Tapas, etc.
