A view along the nave of the medieval bassilica in the Belgian city of Tongeren.

There has been a church here since at least the 4th century CE, but the current gothic structure was built between 1240 and 1544 CE, after a romanesque predecesor was destroyed during one of many battles between the count of Loon and the prince-bishop of Liege. Despite this long construction period, the style of the building looks quite uniform. Especially the interior here looks like pure 13th century early gothic.

The giant organ, built in 1752, is easily the most impressive piece of furniture in the building and a fitting shrine to baroque craftsmanship.

This shot is a mosaic of two photographs. I wanted to capture the length and width of the nave by getting as many of the huge pillars into the picture as possible, as well as emphasizing the height by getting plenty of the vaulting in the picture as well.
